Windows 10 installation error 0xC1900101-0c4000D second boot phase during data migration operation.

Tried to install win10 pro on my W520 and got the error above. I was warned about the nvidia 1000m quadro issue going in and found a driver that supposedly works for win10 we'll see when I get Win10 installed. But for now I don't seem to be able to get past this error and get Win10 installed and up and running so I can deal with the nvidia issue etc. Any help would be much appreciated as this is the first time doing a Win10 install.

Hi there,

Are you installing it from scratch or is this an update from a previous version of windows?

This is an update from Windows 7 Pro trying to preserve data as this is a work computer and has my work world on it.

ok then just try the following suggestions:

1.- uninstall any antivirus you have
2.-defragment your disk

and try again. please let me know if it worked.

Do not have permissions to uninstall anti Virus can only disable it which I have done to no avail. No disk. Running on a  500 GB Samsung SSD Pro I think we could make better headway if you could share you thoughts with me as to what is going wrong rather than have me beat my head against the wall trying all sorts of things as I'm not familiar with the upgrade process at all. To tell you the truth Windows 10 is not a big deal to me as this old Lenovo W520 with Windows 7 Pro runs good after 7 years of constant use. I am only trying to stay current with Microsoft's push to get everyone on 10 and their dropping support on 7.

Thank you,

Hello,

If you do not have administrative permissions to run the Windows 10 installer than perhaps that is the reason for the error.

Have you tried contacting your IT department and seeing if they can start the installation?  If needed, they can probably disable the anti-virus software, too, until the upgrade is complete.

Thank you for the suggestion(s). However, Windows 10 will have to wait until I have more time to deal with it. I have work to get done and need to concentrate on that for now. I thought Microsoft would have all the kinks like this worked out by now and this would be an easy upgrade. Obviously, as with all things Microsoft I was sadly mistaken. I'll jus stay with what I have for now it is getting the job done!
