"Device Cannot Start" problems - fixed!

Just wanted to share the solution to a big problem I was having.

My W510 was working perfectly fine last night. Woke up this morning, turned it on and no audio. The Conexant card was missing from the Sound control panel option, as well as missing from device manager, leaving just the 4 Nvidia Audio panels.

Did a BIOS update to see if that would help. It didn't but then I noticed my wired Ethernet port was now reporting a Code 10: Could Not Start Device, so it seemed like there were some powering up issues.

Finally figured out the solution online: power off the system, remove the battery for a few minutes. Then plug the battery back in and start it up and voila, it should all be fixed. Seems even leaving the battery in the system when it's powered off will still keep some devices that are off, set to off for some reason. A complete no-power reset fixes it.
