w500 intel PRO/Wireless 5300 adapter (device) and modem not shown

2009-04-27, 14:56 PM

Hi!

I received Thinkpad w500, 4061-CTO ( Y15) and Vista 32 bit Business licence.

The seller installed Win Xp at our request.

I noticed that some driver had issues, but solved that by downloading Ricoh Multicard reader driver.

Problem is, Wireless adapter (and phone modem) is not shown in device manager window.

I checked in Bios - wireles is Enabled. I downloaded and installed driver:

  6hwc05ww.exe

Nothing.

I do not have old laptop anymore, so formating C: is not tempting idea to me.

The seller said that he maybe installed X300 drivers?

I downloaded all drivers from my model and upgraded (most were older versions) including BIOS - nothing.

Any ideas?

Regards!

Elis

Does the Device Manager show any devices with drivers not installed?

Are you sure you have the Intel 5300 wireless card?

Is the audio working on your W500?

At the momet all devices in Device Manager are properly installed, no question marks or warnings.

I am pretty sure I have Intel 5300 wireless card (is is specified in laptop invoice as Intel PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN 3X3). Did not open the laptop - maybe that would invalidate warranty.

Audio is working ok, although two or three times startup melody was distorted (maybe because of too high volume).

elis, welcome to the forum,

An idea I can offer is for you to have a look at this tip from MS to see if it applies to your situation.

Hope this helps

Andy
