Re: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

2016-12-14, 1:35 AM

I never had this for years until I changed settings in the BIOS. I was trying to get USB/CDs to boot, which I never was able to. I disabled Secure Boot and Enabled Legacy and UEFI (Both) Option. Ever since then, it's having this problem. I'm on a T440s.

I will just reset to defaults.. but something to keep in mind for anyone with non-standard Bios settings, or bios that needs upgrading.

Re: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

I realize this is an old thread, but if someone stumbles onto this in the future hopefully this helps.  I am an IT an i deal with all sorts or laptops.  I have seen this a few times before and this is usually the problem (although i have no idea as to what causes it.)  When you disassemble the laptop look at the hard drive connector.  Most i have seen have a seperate data board that attaches to the motherboard to interface between the hard drive and the mobo.  When i remove this data board i almost always will find the connector from the motherboard completely if not partially removed from the surface of the motherboard.  In this picture the connector is off but resting just above where it should be securely soldered into place.  No connector means no communication with the hdd, hence the error.  Hope this helps!

I know it's a little late, but my S1 Yoga got this problem a few years in - the solution was the little ribbon cable that was between the hard drive connector and the motherboard - it's very easy to bump it when reinserting the drive. Just push it back so it connects propery and everything worked again.

I tried your solution, entering the Bios and then F10 to save, it returned to the same 2100 Detection error.

Have a Lenover T420.   Can anyone else offer any other assistance/ideas?

I love it, your work around just saved my a.. , I was literally sh...ing my pants when I got this error after messing around with BIOS. Thanks for sharing this work around. 5 starts!!!!

The work-around I've found is to enter BIOS Setup with F1, and then F10 to Save and Exit,

whereupon the system reboots normally. This presumably resets the BIOS, suggesting this

is a ThinkPad BIOS issue

I wish the issue can be solved so easily.

I bought my T460s March of 2016, and this error appeared two months after purchase. The error only occurred sporadically at first, but soon became persistent and turned the machine to pretty much a brick. I had to mail my laptop back to lenovo center for repair(, which brought another string of frustrations). One would assume the machine could be best taken care of by professionals of the manufacturer.

Sadly that isn't remotely the case. Since then the same issue has occurred 2 times, with additional one time when the screen turned yellow, and yes my laptop has been sent back 3 times during its 14 months of service, probably 3-4 months of which weren't spent with me. At one point I thought this might finally be fixed, but I was wrong. It's happening again, before I have any chance to back it up.

My first laptop is an ideapad Y470 and has been working great. I used to have faith in Lenovo, but now I'm frustrated and disappointed. If this issue is really so prevalent among these many lines and has bothered so many people, it's unbelievable 3-4 years after being first reported it's still lingering around.

GOD BLESS YOU, JNAVAS!!!  You saved me SO much time.  This happened on my W530 with SSD.  Like you said to do, I pressed F1 while booting, but that error still displayed.  However, after hitting ESC, it went to the BIOS screen.  I hit F10, and it started booting.  WOW.  Works fine now.  Thank you SO much for sharing.
