4 Beeps 4 times after BIOS update/Screen Black

2019-06-06, 19:18 PM

I tried to update the BIOS from JEET66WW (1.15) to JEET85WW (1.34) on my Yoga 12 however it failed. I went through the process after downloading the .exe however after it restarted itself I got a set of 4 beeps, 4 times followed by a black screen. My laptop was plugged in and appears to be charging and the button indicator lights for sound and microphone are lit. According to https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-46018 the issue is "System board (Security chip)" except I don't know what that means or how to solve the problem. Anybody know what I should do to fix this?

Hi Nabjav,

Could you try to boot your laptop into BIOS. Here are some recommended ways to enter the BIOS https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500222. If you manage to enter the BIOS, go to the Security Tab, access the Security Chip, disable the Physical Presence for Clear, then disable the Security Chip (please see the attached photo). Once done, press F10 to save and exit. Check if the issue persists.

Let us know how it goes.

I assume you are not still under warranty.  4 sets of 4 beeps is not good.  I would try pulling the main battery and disconnecting the CMOS battery to reset things.  Put it back together and see what happens.  If that doesn't work, I know of no way to fix this.

@richk Thank you for your reply. I actually just restarted my PC after the beeps happened and everything went back to normal. I guess the BIOS update process never started. I am going to attempt to update the BIOS again after disabling the security chip as recommended by Maru_Lenovo
