Bluetooth in Edge S430 doesn't work on Win8

2012-12-21, 21:06 PM

After I performed a clean install of Windows 8 in my ThinkPad Edge S430, I found that it was impossible to turn Bluetooth on (see pic), and, even more frightenly, the Bluetooth Communications Device does not appear in the Device Manager any more! (I've checked, I have no "Unknown" devices either).

I've been trying different drivers with no succes. Bluetooth worked just fine under Windows 7, and it's still enabled by the BIOS.

Does any one else have had similar experiences, or any ideas of what could be the problem?

Hi again, emannigol

Since the drivers either didn't work or couldn't be installed, let's work back a little further. You said earlier that the BIOS was recognizing the Bluetooth device, correct? Has your BIOS recently been updated? If you are unsure, you can either update it through the driver matrix you went to earlier, or just find your BIOS version and post it here. It could possibly be that the BIOS is not communicating the Bluetooth device to the computer when the operating system loads. If this is the case, then Windows 8 would not know a Bluetooth device is installed on the machine. Check the BIOS and post your results.

Good luck,

Adam

Hi, emannigol

I know you have already downloaded and installed various drivers to attempt to solve this issue, but I would like to make sure that one driver in particular has been installed. That driver can be found here. Select Bluetooth and Modem from the first drop down box, and Windows 8 from the second to filter the results. This driver is the most up to date driver from Lenovo for Bluetooth on your machine with Windows 8. Since the device is recognized and turned on in BIOS, the computer is recognizing it, even if Windows is currently not. This driver will hopefully make Windows recognize it and get your Bluetooth working back properly.

Hope it helps, and let me know how it goes,

Adam

Thanks for the answer!

The filtered results show two drivers: an Intel one (version 2.5), and a Broadcom one (v. 12.0). I had a newer version of the Intel driver (2.6), which I had to uninstall in order to try the suggested version. It didn't work. Then, I tried the Broadcom driver, but the installation was aborted because "no Bluetooth device was detected" (see picture).

So, the problem remains the same :(

Re: Bluetooth in Edge S430 doesn't work on Win8

My Bluetooth device appears as "Enabled" on the BIOS, but I don't know this to necessarily imply that the BIOS is recognising it.

Some weeks ago I sent my computer to a Lenovo Support Centre, and I don't know if they updated the BIOS. I know I haven't. The current version is 1.11 (2012-06-13), which is older than the one listed in the matrix (2.08 26 Nov 2012).

I'll try updating to this last version and let you know. Thanks again for the help.
