Is there a Wacom digitizer in my device?

2015-06-26, 16:59 PM

Hi! I just got a Thinkpad Yoga, 12.5 inch display, HD resolution, and I was wondering if I had a Wacom digitizer in my model, because a lot of posts were saying to look for the HID-compliant touch screen, which I found in my device manager:

Also, Wacom Pen was preinstalled on my computer, but the pen slot seems to be plugged up, the same way as the ones on the models that don't have the digitizer, and my model is HD and not FHD.

My model number is 20DLCTO1WW

Good day and welcome to the community.

I don't know why you're seeing the Wacom device in DevMgr, but looking at the system configurator on the sales page indicate that pen capability only comes with the upgrade FHD display option. The default HD display option is multitouch, only.

Hope this helps to clarify a bit.

Regards.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but the device manager shows the HID-compliant touch and a Wacom device, while the Wacom Pen calibration program was preinstalled. I don't know; my model just seems to be inconsistent with what the sales page says; it also came with a trackpad with physical buttons, which to my knowledge, isn't normal for the Thinkpad Yoga, although I admit that I'm not very knowledgeable about all of this.

Thank you for your timely reply, though.

Re: Is there a Wacom digitizer in my device?

Hi,

err so it's been a while since I first posted this, but I still haven't really gotten an answer.

According to all the specs on the website, apparently my device shouldn't have an active digitizer since my screen is only HD and not FHD, and the pen slot seems to be plugged up. However, the Device Manager still shows the Wacom devices and HID-compliant touch screen, HID-compliant digitizer, and HID-compliant pen, and the Control Panel has settings to adjust things like pen calibration, pen sensitivity, etc. along with just normal touch calibration/sensitivity.

I've been thinking about buying a pen, since it seems like I have all of the software I need pre-installed, but I really don't want to blow $25 just to find out that I don't actually have the hardware necessary.

Thanks.

Hi

Sometimes the issue with CTO configurations (20DLCTO1WW) it is not document exactly what does the computer has because it is a customer order.

For example, this article may look that talks about your model... but it may different since it is Customer Order (CTO).

http://www.jessebandersen.com/2015/05/lenovo-thinkpad-yoga-12-ordered.html

The most effective way is to try some pens like the Thinkpad Pen Pro, but it is not nice to do "trial and error" by buying hardware.

My other idea is for you to post the Hardware ID of you touch screen and Wacom devices to compare them with other user that may use a pen.

I'm sorry I can not provide more lights about this subject.

Regards

Re: Is there a Wacom digitizer in my device?

Alright then. Thanks for your help!

As for Hardware IDs,

Here is my touch screen (under HID-compliant touch screen):

HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&REV_0007&Col06
HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&Col06
HID\VID_056A&UP:000D_U:0004
HID_DEVICE_UP:000D_U:0004
HID_DEVICE

Here is the digitizer (HID-compliant digitizer):

HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&REV_0007&Col05
HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&Col05
HID\VID_056A&UP:000D_U:0001
HID_DEVICE_UP:000D_U:0001
HID_DEVICE

Here is the pen (HID-compliant pen):

HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&REV_0007&Col04
HID\VID_056A&PID_501B&Col04
HID\VID_056A&UP:000D_U:0002
HID_DEVICE_UP:000D_U:0002
HID_DEVICE

And here is the Wacom device (Wacom Device):

USB\VID_056A&PID_501B&REV_0007
USB\VID_056A&PID_501B

As for trial and error, would the screen work with a digitizer pen other than a Thinkpad Pen, such as a Wacom pen for a different Wacom tablet, if it had a Wacom digitizer? I have a friend who does digital art a lot, so I think I might be able to borrow her pen and test it out, if that would work.

Hi

On my limited experience I can tell you that it can be better to try an Active Wacom Pen (one that uses battery). I have a Wacom Bamboo here, and the pen did not work. At the moment I had only sucess with the Thinkpad Pen Pro.

Here is my config:

HID-compliant touch screen

HID\VID_056A&PID_5055&REV_0007&Col06

HID-compliant digitizer

HID\VID_056A&PID_5055&REV_0007&Col05

HID-compliant pen

HID\VID_056A&PID_5055&REV_0007&Col04

Wacom device

USB\VID_056A&PID_5055&REV_0007

So, while you have the 0x056A:0x501B I have the 0x056A:0x5055.

I got the feeling that you can use a Pen, but I can not be complete sure. Try to seach more about the 056A:501B on the internet.

Regards

Alright. Thanks so much!

I'll check with my friend and also try to do some more research on my configuration.

Thanks again!

Hi.

I also checked this support source about the Thinkpad Pen Pro.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/acc100178

It says:

ThinkPad S3 Yoga 14

20DM, 20DN

Only support models that are shipped with a notification flyer, stating that “This system supports Active Pen.”

And the product overview is also interesting.

https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options/tp_active_capacitive_pen_4x80h34887.pdf

I don't know why Lenovo does not put those two links on the product page:

I just dug around a bit in the box my laptop came in, and I think I found the flyer.

I'm assuming this is it:

Then is it safe to say that there is indeed a digitizer in my laptop and that it would be safe for me to purchase a ThinkPad Active Pen?
