Keyboard and Touchpad Randomly Deactivate

2018-05-25, 0:09 AM

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12.5 with digitizer. This has been going on for months, and seems to be happening more frequently. Sometimes this happens at startup and I have to sleep or reboot to activate the keyboard. Sometimes this happens in the middle of typing or watching a video. It seems like it possibly happens when I adjust the screen angle (autorotate is off). I have disabled tablet mode on startup. I have updated Windows and the BIOS. I cannot find a solution that works. Please help resolve this issue. I thought this laptop would last me longer than 2.5 years.

When transitioning from TabletPC mode to laptop mode, sometimes the mechanical system that brings the keyboard back does not fully engage.  Rotating the screen around to be in TabletPC mode and then rotating back may fully reactivate the keyboard.

When the buitlin keyboard does not work, does an external USB keyboard still work?

I don't have an external keyboard, but the mouse that goes with my USB tablet works. I don't think there's a hardware issue because when the keyboard works, it works completely, and when it doesn't work, it's completely unreponsive.

You might want to see if there is a feature in your BIOS / UEFI called Software Guard eXtensions or SGX because it has messed with a great deal of device drivers recently.  Turn it off and see the TouchPad stays in working order.

Thanks for trying to help me. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything called Software Guard Extensions or SGX in the UEFI.
