S540 wifi power is weak and the pb is not the wifi source signal

2015-04-20, 0:19 AM

Hello,

I have 2 Lenovo laptops at home:

- E530 + Win7 64bits + Intel Wireless N 2230 => wifi signal is excellent

- S540 + Win7 64bits + Intel Wireless N 7260 => wifi signal is really weak

Till 2 weeks ago, S540 was working as well as E530, I didn't have any issues with my wifi. But now S540 shows a poor signal strength and is unable to connect unless I put it 2 meters from the router, whereas my E530 can connect even outside the building on that same router.

I have no idea about what could have changed between before and now, the only thing I know is that I perform regular driver updates (I have Intel wifi driver v17.0.2.5), that I had a bluetooth mouse connected there till I lost it 4 weeks ago and that the warranty expired 1 month ago...

Is the N7260 hardware damaged or is it a "simple" configuration problem ?

Can you help me please ?

Thanks

I have the same issue since some time, I've didn't change nor update my os/drivers so I fear is something about the hardware. I had many problems since I've bought this model. Hope this is not another case.

The wifi problems probably are related to the antenna. Due to the bad design of the antenna in the S540 it breaks after about 6 to 12 months. Because Lenovo was not willing to help me (unless I paid for their design flaws), I replaced the antenna myself. After a few hours of screwing, I got back the full wifi signal. The same happened to my friends laptop. I hope this post helps other people getting back their wifi signal.

Disclaimer: I expect the bad designed antenna to break again in about 6 to 12 months. So be prepared to follow this procedure a few more times...
