Re: Switch ThinkPad Yoga Clickpad with new TrackPad

2015-02-18, 19:48 PM

I contacted a spare parts store, and it seems that the TrackPad is only sold together with the palmrest and basically half of the base of the laptop (Nr. 2 in this picture), so it's pretty expensive. Is there a way to confirm that this part includes the TrackPad? I'd hate to spend money on nothing.

The FRU number is 00HN577 or 00HN578, they're on page 4 of this system service parts list.

Also, some people had luck with this driver, I can't confirm it since I don't have the TrackPad, but if anyone does, please report back :smileyhappy:

Re: Switch ThinkPad Yoga Clickpad with new TrackPad

Hi All - I've just followed some of the leads from this forum and have successfully restored the proper physical buttons to my Yoga's TrackPad.  Huge thanks to everyone on this thread (without which I probably would have sold my Yoga on ebay at a major loss)!!

I've listed the steps below for anyone who is interested.  Hope this helps--I'm thrilled to have the buttons back where they belong!

Steps to replace Clickpad with TrackPad for Thinkpad Yoga S1:

  1. Order replacement trackpad (comes with full keyboard bezel) from IBM parts at 18003887080 (option #2). The part number is FRU 00HN577 and costs $103 as of February 24, 2015. As previously confirmed in this thread, this trackpad includes the 3 physical buttons.
Note:  The phone agent is not able to verify that this part has the physical buttons, but mine did.  Assuming there is no variance for the part number, you should be fine.
  2. Follow step by step guides on the Lenovo site to make the replacement: http://lenovoservicetraining.com/showcase?sid=450&key=TGVuZw==

Note: The only tool you need is a micro screwdriver.
  3. Download the driver: http://driverdl.lenovo.com.cn/think/download/driver/7448/UltraNav[n10gx25w].exe
  4. Follow the instructions on this page to disable driver signatures: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/how-to-install-a-driver-that-does-not-contain/7c3f299b-3483-4c96-8c44-87c7451af222 (May vary depending on your OS.)
  5. Install driver
  6. Enjoy your ThinkPad Yoga in all its physical buttons glory!!

The version of the driver here seems to be signed correctly:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/n10gx25w.exe

Uninstall the old driver, reboot, install the new driver, reboot, and now it works.

Update:  I was able to better center the new TrackPad (it can be secured flush to the bezel in either direction if you aren't careful when you secure its screws).

Hello,

The guide link is down for maintenance. Any chance anyone has another copy?

Or you could just watch the short videos on here:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga

Just watch these videos:

  1. Base Cover Removal
  2. Internal Battery Removal
  3. Trackpad Removal

Man, I have been wanting to get the buttons back so bad!

I have a couple questions.

I have the original ThinkPad Yoda. Model Number 20CD. This will work for it correct?

Second, where did you get just that touchpad with the buttons?!? When viewing the Hardware Maintenance Videos for my ThinkPad you do only have to replace the touchpad, and it looks very simple.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

Looks Great!

There is one guy who sells them on ebay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230S-X240-X240S-X250-Touchpad-Clickpad-With-Left-and-Right-keys-/261796620525

Or you can buy it from the ibm maintenance part shop:
http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?storeId=260785&promoName=parts_r&catalogId=-840&langId=-1&pview=partsportal
The FRU part number is 00HN577
