Re: ThinkPad Series (Twist) - shipping issues - 2012

2012-12-10, 23:52 PM

So I just got off the phone with a Lenovo rep. I ordered my Twist on November 24 and the estimated ship date online got bumped back to 1/25/13 pretty quick. so the rep told me that my actual estimated ship date is December 14 and that it's a pretty acurate estimate. I guess we'll see which one's right pretty soon

in the ongoing shipping saga, it appears the online tracking page is back (looks a little different too now) and is reporting that my twist will ship Dec 13.

anybody else having bouncing ship dates?

100% I am having bouncing shipping dates. Until today I had had a solid date of Dec 9th that haden't changed for over a week until today.....now it is Dec 13th but I will believe that when I see it. To anyone who has had a conversation with Lenovo representatives regarding their shipping where they have indicated that their unit will ship any day now, or that the date on the order status page is wrong and it will ship sooner than indicated, I am telling you now that that it is bull**bleep**. You are getting the run around that they are trained to do.

I have heard all of these statements many times now. I should also mention that a few days ago I was told that there is a back order on twists due to a lack of components, but when I spoke to someone the next day they said they had not heard of a problem with obtaining components at all.

I really believe that they just tell you whatver it takes to make you happy enough to temporarily encourage you not to cancel your order, long enough so that hopefully their manufacturer's in China will have it shipped. It is all mind games...no one in the USA call centres knows what is going on in China where the units are being built..which is very evident from  the illogically fluctuating dates on the order status page, and the contradictory statements made by the agents working the call centre phones.

Call agents say whatever they think will get you to believe the order will be shipped, and it is hoped that by luck the order will ship before you get so angry that you cancel the order. If you look at any if the past shipping threads on the Lenovo community pages this will become evident.

I have REAL NEWS! I spoke to someone from post-sales, who appear to be the people who actually know something about what is going on with manufacturing.

I was told that the Twist's are on back order. Right now it looks like they will begin shipping near December 26th. There are 13 computers that will be shipped on Dec 16th, mine is not one of them.

FYI to everyone, I placed my order on Nov 10, so if you placed yours after mine it is likely that you too will not be receiving your computer until the new year.

When I mentioned the order status -mine currently says will ship on Thursday- I was pretty much told by the agent that I can ignore it, as it is nowhere near correct.

If you are interested in whether your laptop is one of the 13 shipping this week call lenovo and ask for post sales.

I for one am debating the idea of cancelling. The only thing holding me back is that I am four hours from a city where I can buy a laptop.

Joe1553 - thanks for that input!
What number did you phone, in order to then get to a point where you can ask for Post Sales? The only way I could get to a person the last time I tried, was selecting options on the phone menus that indicated I wanted a cancellation!

I called the number on the Canadian website 18669684465. Just click 2 for sales and ask the sales agent to transfer you to post sales.

I ordered my s230u (3347CTO -- i5 -- no customization) on 11/12/2012.  I've been monitoring the "order status" page and here's what I've recorded:

As of 11/19: In production – estimated ship date: 11/30 – estimated delivery date: 12/06

What a journey!  On the 4th, I got an update that remained unchanged for almost a week (see below).  I was hopeful.  Yesterday (the 10th), that hope was dashed as another week was added to the ship and delivery dates (see below).  Then just a few minutes ago, I got the "Shipping Confirmation."  What a screwed up system!

As of 12/04: In production – estimated ship date: 12/09 – estimated delivery date: 12/16

As of 12/10: In production – estimated ship date: 12/13 – estimated delivery date: 12/20

Best wishes getting yours!

Here's my personal anecdote: I got my stock i5 with 4g of RAM at Staples on Black Friday for $699 (for play), my wife has an i7 with 8g from Newegg (for actual work). The speed differences are negligible on every app we've tested (Powerpoint, massive Excel pivot tables, SQL Server running local, Firefox metro, streaming video), if we had to do it over again we would have just bought 2 i5's and saved the $450 difference.  I just checked Staples, every single store within 100 miles of me has them in stock for $799.

IMHO, unless you guys are planning on serious PC gaming or something that might actually need the extra RAM, consider the Staples purchase, if not just for the instant gratification.  I love this thing so much I'm giving my son my formerly-joined-at-the-hip old iPad for Christmas. Adios, Cupertino.

Disclaimer: I/we DO NOT work for Staples :smileylol:

I've waited one month until they send it!.

I put my order the November 11th for a I7, 8gig ram and SSD, my order was shipped yesterday (December 10) and should be deliver by Friday.

The farthest estimate shipping date I got was December 14

At least I will receive it before Christmas!
