Thinkpad Yoga 14 Model 20DM000VUS Hinge Repair Question

2017-11-09, 19:18 PM

The right hinge on my laptop is broken, and it is causing my laptop to turn off when it is moved.  I plan on ordering a new arm hinge to replace it.  When i try to open my laptop, or turn it into a tablet there is loud cracking and difficulty changing screen position, as if the entired screen is about to snap off.  If my laptop is on a flat surface, the entire screen is slanted down on the right due to the broken hinge.

Is the 00HT617 hinge kit/part the one i need to replace it ?

Has anyone else had this problem or fixed it ?

Thanks,

-BB

Replacing the hinge  requires a nearly complete disassembly of your laptop.    The steps to require the removal of the following, which may be a bit daunting if you have never taken apart a laptop before.

1. Base Cover Assembly

2. Keyboard

3. Battery Pack

4. Internal Storage Drive

5. Memory Module

6. Wireless LAN Card

7. Coin-Cell Battery

8. Button I/O Card

9. USB/Audio Card

10. M.2 Solid State Drive

11. ThinkPad Logo LED Card

12. Speaker Assembly

13. Media Card Reader

14. System Board

15. LCD Unit

16. LCD Bezel

17. LCD Touch Panel

Official Lenovo instructions on how to remove each of the parts can be found at https://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/showcase?sid=540&key=TGVuZw== if your are up to the task.

If you do choose to tackle it yourself, be sure to take lots of pictures, and keep track of what screws go to what part, because while they may look similar, they are of different lengths etc.

Using your machine type to lookup parts for your system at https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup, it appears that the part number for the hinge kit would be 00HN636 if the hinge is black, and 00HT617 if the hinge is silver.

Note:  It should not really matter what color the hinges are if you replace both hinges (they come as a kit), but that is up to you..

The link below is the parts list for your system based upon the machine type model 20DM000VUS that you provided, but you may want to search at https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup using your systems serial number to get the part for your actual configuration.      Note:  Do not post your serial number online.
