Thinkpad Yoga 14 ignores touchpad settings after sleep on Windows 8.1. Driver broken!

2015-09-07, 11:29 AM

My Thinkpad Yoga 14 Ultrabook ignores its trackpad settings after resuming Windows 8.1 from sleep.

As a result the mouse pointer moves extremly slow and insensitive according to the default settings.

To reactivate my acceptable settings I have to go to

control panel -> mouse -> UltraNav and click OK.

This is very anoying.

Can the driver be fixed? I am using the latest version already and it seems to be broken!

Since I wrote this bug report from another computer I just notice now that the UltraNav tab is actually called ThinkPad in my mouse properties, so I have to click ok in

control panel -> mouse -> ThinkPad .

Actually my solution is still incorrect. What I really need to do to activate my settings after sleep is:

control panel -> mouse -> ThinkPad -> Advanced Settings -> Ok .

Unfortunately resetting the ThinkPad to its factory installation as suggested by the Lenovo support did make any difference.

Hi.

I'm not using Windows 8.1 anymore, but check on the Windows "Device Manager" which version of the Ultranav driver are you using. Maybe you can install a newer one that can solve this problem.

Check mine (but it is on Win 10).

Hi

I just noticed that the latest driver for Windows 8.1 is version  18.0.7.98 (4/6/2015 ). Maybe you can give it a try.

Hi Martiniturbide,

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

I already checked

ThinkPad UltraNav Properties => Update Driver => Search automatically for updated driver

and Windows said: "The best driver software for your device is already installed".

However when examining my driver I found not the latest driver installed but

Driver Date: 30.09.2014

Driver Version: 8.216.1616.111

So I tried to install the latest UltraNav driver version 18.0.7.98 (4/6/2015) you mentioned but received an Error window:

"Synaptics device not found!"

However, I found a second UltraNav driver version 8.216.16 16.114 (2/5/2015) listed which I could install. After installation I find

Driver Date: 07.11.2014

Driver Version: 8.216.1616.111

However, after a restart the problem remains.

Furthermore the question arises why Windows doesn't find the latest driver and why I can't install it.

I should probably also give the link to the driver that I could install

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-14/downloads/DS102291

and mention, that the Lenove update utiliity also didn't detect any of the TouchPad driver updates listed at the Lenovo support page.

I am quite disappointed how bad the ThinkPad software and hardware really is.

I should also point out that besides the problem mentioned here the TouchPad is terrible to use. The pointer always jumps on every click, because the buttons are not separate but integrated into the TouchPad and touch sensitive. However, this is an unacceptable design flaw worth another post by itself.

I need to correct a typo in my previous reply.

The corresponding driver date and version after the update are:

Driver Date: 07.11.2014

Driver Version: 8.216.1616.114

Hi.

When Windows says to you "The best driver software for your device is already installed" on the Device Manager, you can not really trust it. This is what Microsoft has on its database and they generally fail to have new driver there.

Sorry, I think I pointed to you the wrong driver, but at the end you find the correct one.

You installed the latest driver by Lenovo version 8.216.1616.114, so I run out of ideas.

Maybe you can check on "Windows Update" to see if there are options drivers available and also patch Windows to the latest level just in case, but that will be a wild shot, nothing for sure.

Regards
