Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

2014-10-05, 12:16 PM

Hi All,

We rolled out 70 Thinkpad Yogas for our sales force and work and I fell in love with the model. I finally picked one up for myself a couple weeks ago and it's as close to the perfect laptop as possible (IMO).

The problem is that I have begun noticing the ghosting issue; once you notice it, you can't stop!

I went and tested a couple at work and although they're not as bad as my personal Yoga, they still exibit noticible ghosting.

I'm not so much worried about the sales force because those laptops are for business and no one is really noticing the ghosting.

It's killing me on my personal one, however.

The model I purchased for myself is: 20CD-S01H00.

To Lenovo: are you working on a fix? I absolutely love the laptop but I'm still within my return period and I will send it back if there are no intentions to fix this dizzying issue.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

So as per previous posts I got my screen replaced to SBP1 but with no ghosting out of the box. After 2 weeks or so the ghosting issue is still not there but guess what, yesterday I needed to do some notetaking and boom if you touch the bottom of the screen or rest your palm there while  writing you'll get flickering and purple stripes (vertical bands) all over the screen.

Was it a replacement done wrongy? -  I don't know. What I do know is that the screen does not have sufficien support at the bottom bezel and gives significanly in that area if even touched lightly. Old screen was just the same in that respect but apart from flexing it was not exibiting on/off flicker and artefacting action.

So not a happy bunny at all. In fact I am a furious bunny with 1500 EUR pen tablet that I probably ideally should not touch or scribble on.

@keef413

SPB1 or SPB2

To everyone posting here, if you are reporting issues of ghosting with the laptops, please specify whether you have the SPB1 or SPB2 screen.

Almost at the two week mark with my new SPB1 panel - no signs of any ghosting as of yet.

@dave_theroll

How can I tell which model I have without pulling the screen? I chekced the BIOS and MSINFO32. No mention of a display panel model.

@keef413 - http://www.hwinfo.com/

Regarding my last screen replacement, I have the SPB1 Model again, for two weeks now, and no signs of ghosting for the moment by daily use, let's see how long it takes to come.

This time I haven't done any special ghosting test, because I want to know how long it takes until I notice it by myself, by totally normal use.

However, the backlight sealing of this unit is really really poor, with dark backgrounds you can see many brighter areas around the whole screen, that was not so noticeable in the first ones I had. Not unusable but really annoying.

It's amazing what for crappy panels is LG making for this model.

I checked my machine with HWINFO and it looks like I have the SPB2.

I get pretty bad ghosting with my machine but the image retention issue doesn't seem to be present. I ghost badly just dragging the start menu tiles back and forth.

From HWINFO:

Monitor Name (Manuf): LP125WF2-SPB2

Edit to add:

I just put my Yoga side-by-side with one at work (which has an SPB1 panel) and the ghosting on mine is the same or worse.

Here is a video of the ghosting that I sent in to Amy_Lenovo (who is very helpful).

On the left is my personal Yoga with SPB2 and on the right is one I have at work with SPB1.

Betreff: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

2014-10-07, 14:33 PM

UPDATE

My TPY were repaired from Lenovo because of the ghosting issue a month ago. They replaced the display with the same model SPB1.

I have to say that there is no ghosting effect anyway scince it were repaired....so everything is fine... so far.

What I do recognized is, that they maybe changed something at the BIOS or so, the starting screen shows a different image and symbol....so maybe it's not only a hardware problem?!

I give you updates if something will change.

greetings Marshal

Marshal,

Did you send your TPY in? Or, were you fortunate enough to be near one of
their locations? If you did send it in, what was the approximate turn-around
time?

Thanks,

Dylan
