Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

2014-10-10, 18:08 PM

It is my understanding that Lenovo started using the SPB2 panel to fix the ghosting issue with the SPB1. Unfortunately, the SPB2 still has ghosting issues (at least mine does) so the issue remains.

Amy_lenovo from this forum has been contacting those of us with ghosting SPB2 panels and passing the information to Lenovo. This is a good sign but as far as I know there isn't a resolution as of yet.

FWIW: Other than the ghosting, this is the best laptop I've used.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

So I received my Laptop on friday, without any announcement, although the support told me that they will call me before. Nothing was repaired, because no failure could be found! I'm fed up with this whole thing!

I contacted the seller of my laptop and claimed that they shall repair it till next friday. Otherwise I will back out of the contract after the second failed repair and I want to get back all of my money! Never ever experienced such bad support with a company and Lenovo sees them even as a business company!

The best thing in the manual is:

"The visual display screens of ThinkPad notebook computers are designed to meet the highest standards
and to provide you with clear, crisp images and large, bright displays that are easy to see, yet easy on the
eyes"

Seems also like false advertising with such bad ghosting

UPDATE

So I have had my TPY with the SPB2 screen for over two months now and still no ghosting. I use it every day for at least 6 hours, a few hours watching vids and the rest on Word or Onenote taking notes with a Wacom Bamboo Pen. The only thing i have noticed with the screen is light bleeding from the bottom left corner and bottom middle sections (See pic). I believe this is normal or at least acceptable

What's the average battery life you guys have been getting out of your TPY?

Mine originally was about 6 hours no problem, but recently I've been getting max 3 hours out of a full charge with the same usage...

-With brightness up, music playing, web surfing, and the constant use of a math program I just got about 4 hours.
-With brightness 1 notch shy of all the way down and using a computer coding program constantly I got 6-7 hours. I was also powering an external hard drive.

Hey everyone,

I just got my display replaced, short version:

- New Display is SPB2 (HM111)

- Ghosting out of the box, burns in faster than before

- new screen flickers like crazy

=> repair made things worse.

This really is quite disheartening. One wonders if Lenovo has written off
this model as a failed one off that won't be fixed, just replaced with a
newer form.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

It seems LG is having a serious issue with their mobile IPS panels. I still hope there will be an alternative in form of either a FullHD TN panel (again I'd rather accept the limitations of TN than the severe ghosting, and meanwhile also flickering of the LG IPS panels, even tho TN panels are generally considered cheaper) or a Samsung PLS panel which is partly used in MacBooks. From what I've read on the internet the MacBooks that suffered ghosting all had LG panels too where the Samsung panels seem to just work fine. The Dell XPS 12 Laptops which are also equipped with LG panels suffer from the ghosting issue too. Since this was my 2nd SPB2 Display which is defective it seems LG has failed to eliminate the error with this revision.

The positive thing is: The technician acknowledged the issue with the new display right after the replacement and added a remark to my ticket. I'm now waiting to be called back to make another appointment and get my 2nd display swap.

Wish me luck.
