Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

2015-07-10, 12:52 PM

It's a pity. But how could it have taken a little over a year for the problem to occur when the second generation has only been around for a couple of months. Are you certain you got a 2nd gen Yoga?

Re: Thinkpad Yoga - ghosting / after-image / watermark issue

2015-07-22, 16:20 PM

This has happened to my ThinkPad Yoga now. I'm getting ghosting after 5 mins of a static image on the screen.  The machine was bought in April 2014, warrany expired May 2015. The problem was first noticed in April, but I thought I had simply left an image on too long. It wasn't until I started working with it more and more in June that I realized it was a problem.

I called support and was told that I'd have to buy a part to fix it since it was out of warranty. I mentioned that this seemed to be a known issue with this model of laptop and asked him if it could be fixed without a cost to me. He said that it is not a known issue to them. I offered to send him this thread (and a few others) and he kept talking over me and telling me to write down the case number.

I asked for his name and he insisted that he'd give it after I wrote down the case number. He hung up on me before giving me his name.

I think this will be the last Lenovo product I buy personally and it will be the last Lenovo product for the companies I support. We've had increasingly poor interactions with Lenovo support over the years.  Overall, the companies will need to replace a few hundred machines, but we'll do that as they die out or get rotated out.  If I'm not going to get support for these things, I may as well go to another brand without support and pay less.

If anyone from Lenovo is interested, the case number is CQKYTPWQ....and unfortunately I don't have that agent's name.

... Deal with the ghosting, I sent mine in 3 months before the warentry
ended.... And it took them over 3 months to fix and they replaced the
screen 4 times, the motherboard 2 times, and the cable 2 times before
finaly having a working touchscreen, digitizer, and no ghosting. They
returned, my laptop with almost every screw so striped I needed to use a
special bit to remove the screws to put my ssd back in. And they wanted to
charge me 600$ per screen replacement that they did in the last couple
weeks after my warranty ended and they still haven't fixed it... Just deal
with the lemon, or don't buy another thinkpad. Unfortunately I love this
little laptop so much i'd buy it even with the ghosting issue, so I'd
recommend you just deal with it.... They did fix the screen but Honestly
being without it for 3 months and having to deal with customer service was
not worth the fix.

3 months?? On a THINK branded system? I thought that kind of crappy service was reserved for the IDEA-branded stuff.

I don't think I have any choice but to deal with it. It's not the end of the world and I can still use the laptop, but it's irritating. I really wish I had just purchased a Surface instead.

Well, at least it's the last interaction I'll have with Lenovo on a personal basis. And I'll phase out the business relationship in the coming months/years.

Guys, I appreciate your replies but can you please specify whether you have the 1st or 2nd Generation ThinkPad Yoga?

I have the ThinkPad Yoga 20CD002VUS, my warranty just expired and I'm seeing this ghosting as well. It is extremly noticable now after getting it back from service under warranty just as it was expiring. Some cable to the display was bad and the system would not turn on after the display was flipped back.

This is a pretty nasty issue for me as im in Email, browsers, and remote sessions all day and I constantly have to see this. Hope there is a solution from Lenovo because after the issues I've had with this pricey laptop and a measly 1 year warranty (which I will now make sure I get 3years on any that I have) I'm ready to go back to Dell even though I love the Lenovo laptops.

The link does not exist. Did you enter it incorrectly? Or has Lenovo decided that we must continue suffering?

I found a cached version of that page using Google. It's a page about a firmware update for the Yoga 3 to solve a problem with touches being registered when nothing is pressing the screen. Doesn't sound anything to do with ghost images, only phantom touches!
