Re: WiFi connectivity issue - ThinkPad Twist

^^^THIS.... i was going absolutely nuts with this issue and ran across this post last night... I made this change and have not had a drop since.  I know it doesn't seem like much but it's the 1st 24 hour period I've experienced without a wifi drop since I got this **bleep** thing.

Re: WiFi connectivity issue - ThinkPad Twist

I have the dreaded wifi vs. bluetooth issue too. and seem to have a massive IO drop out issue when copying files across both wifi and wired networks. Now I have changed routers and the issue persists with one exception. I changed the operating system from win 8 to windows 7 ( now that lenovo puts up all the win 7 drivers for the twist series ) and at least the file IO issues seem to have vanished. I'm gonna try testing the bt vs. wifi drop out in win 7 to see if it persists.

windows 7 and the twist are a hit.

note: the gpio drivers in 7 dont seem to work - killing the autorotate feature but who cares - as you can rotate the screenwith the ctrl-alt and arrow keys - fine by me.

it's nice to have an operating system with a single personality and non-cloud based..

running a twist i7 series with 8gb ram, 120gb intel msata and 480gb intel 520 series ssd over a dual boot of win 7 and unbuntu 12.x

- this unit rocks.

p.s. unbuntu has touch screen drivers built in. way, way faster then win n products...

Hello,

Open the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC)  and navigate to the Network Adapters tree, expand it, and the wireless network adapter should be listed somewhere below  Mine says "2×2 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter", and appears to be Broadcom 43228 chipset-based.

Regards,

Re: WiFi connectivity issue - ThinkPad Twist

Well I spoke too soon.  Looks like I had another drop over night.  Here's what I find keeps happening and I cannot explain it.  When I checked my wifi adapter power management settings come to find out that the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was checked even though I'd unchecked that setting and saved.  This keeps happening.  Something keeps re-checking this box on its own and I feel that's the source of my problem.  Why is this box being rechecked on its own????????

Ray,

Perhaps your power plan is overriding the setting?   What do you have set in power management?

If Windows 7, are you using Lenovo power manager as well as Windows?  Perhaps there is a clash there?

Maybe you can set this, save it, then reboot and recheck to see if the setting stayed.  Does it stay after a restart?  After a complete shutdown and restart?  After suspend / resume?

Mark

I'm running Windows 8.  My power plan is set to performance max and is set to never let the computer to go to sleep when plugged in... and it's always plugged in.  I changed the settings in both the device manager and in the adapter settings in the Network and Sharing center.  Did a reboot.  The device manager setting was as I left it, but the adapter setting in the Network and Sharing center had the box checked again.  Very confused as to what's causing that box to continue to re-check itself

Bring up device manager and under network adapters you should see your wifi adapter listed.  When you right click and select properties go to the power management tab and you'll find the setting there.

Just so everyone knows, I just did the test where I unchecked the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in both of the locations I know of (Device manager and Network Sharing Center) and rebooted the machine.  Upon reboot the Network Sharing Center box had mysteriously rechecked itself so I unchecked it.  About 10 minutes ago I had another drop and checked in both places and sure enough the box had mysteriously rechecked itself in both places!!  What's going on here?
