Bootable Bios Update Not Working

2016-12-01, 5:25 AM

Hi.  I am trying to create a bootable USB drive to update the bios of my laptop.  When I download the ISO file from the Lenovo driver website and extract the files, there is nothing there.

Is there an issues with the file?  Or is the issue on my end?

The specific file I am looking to download is here:

Hello and welcome,

I can't tell you how to convert this into a bootable USB flash drive, but the file looks like the other BIOS ISOs I've examined.

Contents shown in 7zip below.

That is what I see as well excep there are no actual files in there if you drill down into the folders... or at least that is what I am experiencing.

Is that your experience as well?

That 7zip snip shows the file size as ~106MB.  Unfortunately I'm unable to extract it with 7zip.

Is there a way to escalate this to Lenovo support?

signature16,

if you'e a bit friendly with Linux you might create bootable USB drive using BIOS ISO image.

This image is an El Torito file, Linux supports that one. The drive you'll create under Linux is a DOS bootable one.

This isn't really a support issue.  The ISO is correct as it is.

Sometime I looked for such tool. The only tools I've found are able to show the El Torito image inside, I mean .img file in our case, w/out its content. 7-Zip, some Nero tool, something else.

Of course, you might create a DOS bootable drive yourself and use Phoenix flashing tool for DOS with appropriate command line parameters. Remember, there are two BIOS and EC files to flash in the package.

BTW, why don't you use standard Windows flashing tool in the BIOS update exe-package?
