Fan noise extremely loud since BIOS update; S430

2013-02-06, 10:45 AM

hey there,

I have installed the new bios update; so I am running version 2.5 now. I have noticed that the fan is running more frequently now and louder than before, although I am not working on any demanding tasks. so, it is not unusual that the fan starts running very fast when I am just checking my mails.

Moreover, I noticed that the battery life decreased and I can hardly make it up to 3,5 hours. Normally, before the update, the battery could easily make it up to 5 hours.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Are you sure there isn't some kind of service running in the background that uses alot of cpu power?

I noticed that on my E530, the bluetooth service is sometimes running constantly at 25% cpu load, even though bluetooth is turned off completely.

It may be worth checking.

cheers for your reply. i have checked on the bluetooth services but they are idle and not consuming any cpu performance. moreover, sometimes there isnt even any workload at all, so actually the notebook is idle and the fan is still running quite fast and loud.

i noticed that many other costumers have the same problem with their edge notebooks. it is funny, though, that the problem came up when i installed the bios update...

thank you anyways

Hey moritzmoritz!

I wanted to clarify which version of the BIOS you are currently using. I see you are currently using version 2.5 (released in Jan. 2013) of the BIOS, did you by chance mean the 2.51? The 2.51 was released Feb 6 2013, the date your post. I look forward to hearing back from you on this. Thank you!

hey there,

when I open the regedit, it tells me the following: SystemBiosDate 12/21/12 SystemBiosVersion LENOVO - 2500 Phoenix BIOS SC-T v.2.2.

So obviously, I am not running the newest version although I am pretty sure that I installed it using the Bios Updater tool provided on the drivers and support website. Any ideas? Shall I just update it again?

Thank You!

Don't trust so much in "automatic" udpates.

Cheers.
