Are we expecting a microcode update from Lenovo for this?
I have a Yoga 260 with an i5-6200U here (2C4T).

I believe the BIOS updates for this issue are being released. ThinkPad Yoga 260 seems fixed already in version 1.55.
Can you confirm if this version (or later) solves the problem for you?
<1.55> UEFI: 1.55 / ECP: 1.27 - (New) Updated the CPU microcode. - (Fix) Fixed a POST hang issue when Lenovo T2424z monitor is attached to the system and is selected as a boot display. - (Fix) Fixed an issue where Samsung 18nm memory might occur BSOD. - (Fix) Fixed the issue where the keyboard, trackpoint and trackpad does not work

+1 for this on the X270. I have a Kaby Lake i7 with hyperthreading and I don't see any way to turn it off in the BIOS.
There is no way to turn it off in the BIOS.

Well I'm actually asking Lenovo that question, Intel is leaving it up to manufacturers to push the updates. I did try to stress the machine and didn't notice instability in particular.

You can do it on your own:
Download the Microcode Updater from VMWare: https://labs.vmware.com/flings/vmware-cpu-microcode-update-driver and the latest microcode package from Intel. That should do the job.
