Lenovo Yoga S1 Battery Strange Battery Discharging Behavior

2020-01-05, 1:25 AM

I recently purchased the Lenovo Yoga S1 laptop from a refurbishing store and I seem to have odd battery behavior. I checked the battery report from the command prompt and got the information as shown below. It seems like the battery will suddenly drop in percentage very quickly. I am more than happy to buy a new battery and install it myself as I got a fantastic deal on the laptop as is, but I was just curious if this may be a known issue that is software based as opposed to hardware based? Below the battery information ill throw in some of the other information generated in the battery report, if it helps in solving the issue.

Welcome to the forums.  One thing I would check first is do you have anything plugged in to the usb port?  2nd thing i would check is "fast startup" turned on?  If on I would turn off.  On my X1Y3 battery drain even while off was much higher with usb always on and fast startup turned on.

I do not have anything plugged into the USB port and I just turned off the fast start-up option, but I do not know if this will be the culprit. The issue just happened to me again, mid use. It may just be that the battery has been unused for a long time and needs to be cycled a couple times before it can properly hold its charge, but I can't say I know enough about that stuff to be certain.

What does vantage show as condition of battery?  You may be right.  There could be a defective battery or it may just need to be cycled if battery hasnt been used in a while.

Re: Lenovo Yoga S1 Battery Strange Battery Discharging Behavior

So after downloading Lenovo Vantage and doing all the updates it recommended I do, I get the verdict that the battery is healthy, Maybe one of the updates that Vantage wanted me to do will fix the battery problems.

Thanks for the help so far, espeically for the information about Lenovo Vantage! Wish it would have come preinstalled, but maybe it didnt because this is a refurbished laptop.

Re: Lenovo Yoga S1 Battery Strange Battery Discharging Behavior

So after cycling the battery all day today and seeing no changes in how the battery behaves is there anything else I should try? I contacted the company that sold me the laptop and they told me they will have a technition call me tomorrow to see if he can help.

I tried to do a battery gauge reset and it failed on step three where it recharges the battery to 100% again, presumably because once the battery reaches about 40% while charging the percentage indicator jumps to 100% and that probably messed with the calibration.
