O2Micro Media Card Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes KB4022725 to fail

The O2Micro Media Card Reader Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes blue screen failures at startup (SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) when '2017-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022725)' is installed. After uninstalling the driver, the update installed fine and Windows booted fine.

Betreff: O2Micro Media Card Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes KB4022725 to fail

I can confirm this behaviour:

ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DNS02H00), Windows 10 Education 64-bit, Version 1703 (Build 15063.296)

Also uninstalling the driver via "Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a program" is not enough. The driver is still present in the system after restart.

The driver has to be removed via:

1.) Control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager
2.) select: Storage controllers -> BayHubTech Integrated MMC/SD controller
3.) right click: "Uninstall device"

And do not reinstall the driver after Windows update has sucessfully installed KB4022725. This will end up in a blue screen at the next restart again!

Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 14 (20DNS02H00), i5-5200U, 1TB Samsung 850 PRO SSD, 8GB RAM, GeForce 940M, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (1703) clean install & Lenovo OneLink Dock Pro with 2x Samsung XL2370

Re: O2Micro Media Card Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes KB4022725 to fail

Thank you for making this thread.  I had the same problem. I found disabling the driver worked fine, I did not have to "uninstall" it.

I tried reporting this through a customer service link (case number 4049Z9P) and got a generic response that they are shipping a box to have me ship my device in for repair.  This makes no sense since it's a driver problem and no explanation was given why they want me to ship my device in.

Here is my crash report:

Conclusion

One crash dump has been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

bhtpcrdr.sys (BayHubTech/O2Micro SD Reader Driver, BayHubTech/O2Micro )

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google

Best I can tell, Lenovo makes it as painful as possible to get in touch with anyone for support concerns. I'm glad this thread was useful to you and I appreciate the two confirmation replies I've seen on this thread. Hopefully others will benefit as well. Ideally, though, the right individual(s) from Lenovo would take notice and pull the offending driver from distribution.

Re: O2Micro Media Card Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes KB4022725 to fail

I noticed today that Lenovo pulled 1.1.1.1019 from their driver web site. I installed 1.1.1.1017 and after deleting the pulled driver and now everythig *appears to be fine* The computer rebooted without blue screen of deathing. *Fingers crossed*

Someone at Lenovo was on the ball enough to pull the bad driver, but customer service was useless,  Instead of asking me to send in my laptop so they could factory reset it, they shoud have advised if they could reproduce the problem on their end with their own equipment. If they could, sending in the laptop or wiping it would be pointless.

Thank you!  You saved what is left of my hair. <G>

Rollback on the MMC driver worked for me.

Re: O2Micro Media Card Driver 1.1.1.1019 causes KB4022725 to fail

In case anyone else lands here via search, Windows Update now has an updated driver version 1.1.1.1020 that resolves this issue. You can grab the new driver via:

  1. Open Device Manager
  2. Locate "BayHubTech Integrated MMC/SD controller"
  3. Right click and select "Update driver"
  4. Select "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the prompts

If for some reason you're unable to use Windows Update, I've attached the driver to this post and it is also mirrored here.
