S430: 1802 Unauthorized network card

I just bought an Intel Wireless AC 3160 network card, but when replacing the Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 with my new 5 Ghz card, the machine won't boot, and I get an error message saying: 1802 Unauthorized network card .....

So my questions are:

How can I get my new AC 3160 card to work in the S430 Thinkpad?

Can the BIOS somehow be modified to accept the AC 3160 card?

Are there any 5 Ghz cards supported at all by the S430, and if yes, which ones?

Regards,

Re: S430: 1802 Unauthorized network card

Hi

1. BIOS whitelist prevents to use unapproved built-in wireless devices, Intel 3160 isn't in that list

2. legally - no ways

3. there are 4 cards on Broadcom chip BCM43228 in S430 parts list, they support a/b/g/n network mode (802.11a uses 5 GHz band), the cards are the same, just manufacturers differ, FRU 04W3835, 04W3764, 04W3763, 04W3834

Re: S430: 1802 Unauthorized network card

Thanks for quick reply, and based on that, I am considering to use an USB Wireless adapter, like the NETGEAR A6100 WiFi USB Mini Adapter. Would that work, or will this one also be blocked via the white list?

Re: S430: 1802 Unauthorized network card

As I mentioned above, BIOS wl covers built-in wireless devices only, doesn't affect on external USB adapters.
