S540 Touchpad not working

The Touchpad on a cliënts S540 is not working anymore. It started with complaints about non-responsiveness when the laptop woke from sleep (after being closed and opened).

I've tried to install the latest drivers (18.0.7.99) from the Lenovo website but that didn't give a solution.

 

The laptop is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with Touchpad not working after resuming from sleep mode on your ThinkPad S540.

Thanks for the reply Hemanth.

I tried to install the firmware from your link but I either got a message that the driver was not found/installed or some weird error message with selectors. I tried to install the drivers again but that didn't help.

 

The second thing I tried was to reinstall the machine from the recovery partition but that didn't work out either. Now the keyboard drops out after a few seconds of logging into Windows and the touchpad/trackpoint aren't resposive at all.

Is the OS reinstallation done?

Suggest you check with updating the all the latest driver and application for your system from ThinkVantage system update utility.

Hi Hemanth,

 

I've tried your suggestion and it didn't work, both keyboard and touchpad are still unresponsive.

 

I also tried to boot from a Linux Live memorystick. The touchpad and trackpoint didn't work within this boot but the keyboard did work. In a weird way though because every key was registered as multiple strokes. For example if I press F it registers as FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I think this could be a issue with system hardware, request you to get it checked with Lenovo authorized service center.

I also have problem with touchpad. It detect movement but no clicks at the edges.

I have Windows 10 64 bit. New instalation

Just to have more information, can you please share the full model number of your machine?

 

If you also can check the hardwareID (from the Windows Device manager) of the touchpad and share it will be great to document more about this issue on the forum.

Pn Number of my S540 is 20B3.A01N00

Touchpad ID is: Synaptics Clickpad  V1.4 on SMB port

Firmware 1.4

Driver: 19.0.17.27

 

I also search for Part Nr. for HDD bracket for this model.

For what it's worth: The unit I had was returned for repairs because it was a hardware problem.
