ThinkPad Twist (s230u): How to shutdown the system other than using Windows charms menu

I seem unable to shut down my Twist easily. In the past, to turn it off, all I had to do was to swipe the right edge of the screen to pull up the Settings menu. Then I must touch and select the Power-Off option.

Suddenly, I'm unable to draw out the menu from the right side of the screen.

How do I get the menu to emerge and is there an alternate way to turn off my computer?

Perhaps the swipe function or the charm menu from right edge of screen was accidentally disabled in the registry. You may want to check that out.

Anyway, an alternative method of shutting down would be to create a shortcut to the Shutdown command as follows:

c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /p /f

Note: use command prompt to execute this.

The /p tells Windows to shut down the computer without prompting, and the /f tells Windows to force-close all running applications.  You can actually leave the latter option out if you would like to be prompted to close applications that are still running.
