ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

I have been searching the forums and other sources to fix my wifi issues (checking drivers, changing adapter setttings etc) without success. Other devices in the same position and the same access point get good signals (quality 75%+) and connect with high throughput (5 GHz N or AC). The Yoga 15 signal is poor (quality 25% or so) and will not connect. Suspect this will be a warranty return or even a refund.

I noticed most forum entries are about the 7260 wifi card so just wanted to check if anyone had overcome similar problems with the 7265?

Thanks in advance.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

Don't have Yoga 15, we have preliminary tested Yoga (7260-AC dual) and Yoga 12 (7265-AC dual) at6 different locations with different APSs both indoor and outdoor.  So far, haven't seen any significant differences.  I doubt it is the model, likely specific machine or just that card (can be software or hardware - e.g. antenna) you have

Thanks. I am going to go down the return route (warranty service in the UK seem to think I should pay for shipping). Shame as, except for wifi, this seems to be an excellent machine.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

All,

Good news. In preparation for returning the laptop I used the refresh feature in 8.1 and the Wifi is now running excellently. I guess my problem was some sort of driver corruption or similar which the refesh sorted out although, as far as I can tell, all of the driver version numbers etc are the same as when I was having problems. Re-installing apps etc is a bit of a pain but not as much as sending the laptop back.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

glad you fixed it... the 7265 and the antennas in the S1 (likely similar to the other large models) is amongst the best wifi radios i know, relative to many other TP's, tablets and WLAN devices...

Net: the 7265 is robust and stable in the 2.4Ghz like no other radio i know; the 5GHz range i haven't tried, since i tend favor the longer range and wall penetration of the 2.4G range.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

Another bit of the puzzle. Since my Windows 8.1 refresh everything was going fine until I installed Microsoft Silverlight (used by several video services such as blinkbox and eurosport) and then the symptoms reappeared. A normal uninstall through the control panel did not help but a system restore back to a point before the Silverlight install gets things working again. Have been able to repeat this a couple of times but can't explain it. Will raise a problem with Microsoft but I hope this bit of evidence might help others out in the meantime.

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

weird... perhaps the DMCA-based video content protection by Intel/MS service could interfere? Else I don't see any other connection here...

Have you tried the Intel WLAN drivers in stead of the win drivers ?

I like win8 and 10, and yet one their largest errors was hijacking all the dev drivers into the OS...! This adds the load and complexity of 10s of thousands of drivers to be tested and signed, and always lagging behind the manufacturers like nvidia in integrating and updating the latest drivers...

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

Thanks. I am using the latest Lenovo sanctioned drivers but will try Intel direct to see if that is better (I.e. works with Silverlight) or worse (I.e. messes up something more important).

Re: ThinkPad Yoga 15 Intel Wireless AC 7265

Latest update: On the advice from the Microsoft forum I have used the Silverlight "fixit" from the Microsoft site to install Silverlight and it all seems to be working and stable. I used the "fixit" previously without success and can't be sure what is different this time but I am happy it is working now.
