ThinkPad logo "i" LED indicator stopped working on ThinkPad Twist (S230U)

This particular model has two of these indicators, one on the back of the lid, and another next to the keyboard. The one next to the keyboard still works fine, but the one on the back of the lid stopped working altogether in the past day or so.

 

This laptop is only a month old, so I suspect it's a software malfunction and not faulty hardware. It would be nice to get this handy little feature back.

take the hdd out and start the laptop without the hdd, if the LED light doesn't come on then you have a hardware problem.

After following those steps, the LED still did not work, so it looks like a hardware issue.
