Thinkpad Yoga 15 - wireless card upgrade possible?

2019-05-14, 3:19 AM

Hi,

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 15.  I was wondering if upgrading the wireless card for a 802.11ax card (like an Intel AX200 or the Killer AX1650 was possible, or if that laptop still uses a BIOS lock preventing upgrading to any unregonized wireless card?

Thanks.

Hi RMerlin!

It is best to use the recommended/tested WiFi cards for the computer as there is a whitelist for parts.

Here's the list of compatible parts for the Thinkpad Yoga 15

Here's also the Hardware Maintenance Manual :

Regards,

Thanks for the confirmation.

A shame that Lenovo still relies on such whitelists in 2019, as this limits the upgrade possibilities.  Fairly sure that Lenovo will never add any 802.11ax card to that whitelist for the Thinkpad Yoga 15 (that list is from 2015), meaning the only way to get support for that newer wireless standard would be through a clunky USB interface.
