Thinkpad Yoga 20C0S0AX00 screen rotation doesn't work

2016-03-02, 16:26 PM

Dear Forum,

Ever since I installed Windows 10 the automatic screen rotation doesn't work. I have the impression that Windows doesn't even know that my Thinkpad has the corresponding sensors. In the device manager, there is no "Sensor" section, I have no "Rotation lock" button in the quick settings (not greyed out, it's not even there), and the physical rotation lock button does nothing. I checked that the services "Sensor Data Service", "Sensor Monitoring Service" and "Sensor Service" are running and automatically started.

I read here on the forum, that there should be some "HID sensors V2" visible in the Device manager. This doesn't show up, so I have no idea how to reinstall drivers.

Any suggestions how to teach Windows that it has more hardware than it thinks it has?

Welcome to the forums! I've moved your question from the Lenovo Ideapad Yoga forums over to here: the ThinkPad Yoga forum.

In answer to your question, I would suggest you try reinstalling the Intel chipset drivers for your ThinkPad Yoga from the support site:

Thanks for taking care of moving my question to the correct forum!

I installed the chipset drivers, but the situation is unchanged. Any other ideas?

OK, then the next suspect would be the ThinkPad Settings Dependency package, I think.

I'm sorry that I can't be more certain, but this is not a machine that I'm familiar with. I assume that you have installed the ThinkVantage System Update utility? That might help in identifying missing bits of Lenovo software and install them for you.

I updated the Settings Dependence package using System Update, but it was installed already before. Unfortunately, I still see no change after the update.

Maybe unrelated, but there is a certain "BIOS update (Non-Vpro) [32,64]", which refuses to download...

Shouldn't there be some registry key to tell Windows that the machine has sensors?

Update: I added some registry keys which brought me a step further:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation]
"Enable"=dword:00000001
"SensorPresent"=dword:00000001
"LastOrientation"=dword:00000000
"StateEnable"=dword:00000001
"SlateEnable"=dword:00000001

Now the rotation lock button is back. I learned that it is the normal Windows 10 behaviour to disable rotation in normal laptop mode, so the button is grey. In tablet mode the button is active, and also the hardware button is recognized, i.e. I get an on-screen notification that rotation lock was toggled.

However, the screen still refuses to rotate, even in tablet mode. And I still see no Sensors category in the device manager. Any further ideas?
