Thinkpad Yoga 20CD-0038GE: Mouse cursor gone, even after full reset... Help please

2014-05-22, 21:38 PM

Hello all,

I bought a "Thinkpad Yoga 20CD-0038GE" in December and everything worked perfectly until last week.

Suddenly after boot up the mouse cursor disappeared when Windows showed up (no external mouse, I'm using trackpad/trackpoint). The mouse was completely gone, clicking also didn't help (the mouse cursor was not invisible or similar). Touching the display still works.

I then installed all available Windows and Lenovo updates (Solution Center), but the bug was still there. Strangely enough what seems to bring the mouse back sometimes (!) is to switch to flight mode and then restart the system. But when turning flight mode off and restarting the system, the mouse ist gone again...

I searched the forums but could only find tips with un- and reinstalling all kind of drivers, unfortunately no method worked for me. Today I made tabula rasa and restored Windows completely from scratch with the built-in recovery function. Gladly the mouse was back again and everything was fine at first sight. But as soon as I installed the obvious Windows Updates (dozens to be critical listed as it's normal for a recovered Windows installation) the bug was there again and my mouse was gone... ARGH!

So this bug already ruined my last PowerPoint presentation and I would really love to find some help here.

Thanks,

Steve

I got my problem solved!
I sent it back to Lenovo and they replaced the keyboard, it all works fine now.

It's probably NOT a software error.

You should send in yours, too.

Cheers,

Steve

Hello,
any help for me?
Just more details:
- the keyboard works fine
- when starting windows the mouse cursor is centered in the middle but I can't move it. As soon as I touch the screen the cursor disappears.

Perhaps someone has a hint which concrete driver I should install or re-install?

Help would be really much appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

Hi again,

I have some news, maybe now someone could help me? That would be great!

In the device manager there's "ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device" listed, with a yellow exclamation mark. It says Code 24, "Device not Found, This device is either missing or not working properly".

I tried to update it but it says it's already up-to-date. I then downloaded this driver here:

The "Synaptics UltraNav driver for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad"

http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-66898

But unfortunately it says Synaptics device not found (or similar)

Any ideas for a solution?

Once again: The keyboard is working fine. The mouse is also working fine (when Windows is freshly installed) until I install some Windows or Lenovo updates. Then it's just gone. So it cannot be the hardware, right?

Thanks,

Steve

P.S. If I can't solve this problem I send this Thinkpad back to Lenovo, still warranty...

Hi Steve,

I know this is 6 months after the fact, but did you ever resolve this?  Having the exact same issue with my new ThinkPad Yoga.  Yet, one difference, on the lock / user login screen, I have the mouse and it works perfectly.  As soon as I enter my password, it disappears.  Totally bizarre.

Thanks!

Hi Steve

I have bought my Yoga S240 a month ago and experience the same issue: The mousepointer sometimes disappears when working on the track pad without external mouse. Didn't succeed in reproducing the circumstances causing this bevhavoir yet, it happens eventually. When it happens, the only way to get the mouse back is a reboot so far. This can be done properly by navigating with the touch screen, which is not affected.

Looking eagerly forward for a solution as well .... it's very annyoing an painfull when it happens during presentations or note taking in a meeting!

My mouse cursor came back after I updated my trackpad drivers.  Totally bizarre.  I hope it sticks around for longer this time..!

Hey guys,

Until now I didn't manage to get this problem solved. I already talked to the Lenovo's support hotline and they told me to send the Thinkpad Yoga in. So I did. Hello Lenovo Germany, this is my attempt here to get help on the forums... Many more people have this problem, so you better take care I hope. (Just to get your connection, Lenovo, my serial number of the hardware starts with "S/N MP-04KP...")

As soon as I got it back I give you an update here.

Cheers,

Steve (not my real name)

I just checked whether I have the current Synaptics driver installed, I have (ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device V 18.0.7.40). I downloaded and installed the driver again nevertheless.

Let's see if this helps ...

I have also been having this issue! It's driving me crazy! I'm not sure what it is. I'm almost positive it is a software issue and not a hardware issue because if I install linux on my machine I have no problems with the mouse. There is something with the windows updates that is interfering with the drivers for the trackpad! I REALLY WISH lenovo would fix this soon!!!!
