Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I have an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga (20CD).

Sometimes after I have left my Yoga unattended. I come back and find that it's on (red light on) but screen is black, but nothing happends when moving mouse or pressing keys.

I believe this is happens with regards to sleep mode.

I still have some analysis to do wether it happens when power is connected or not, external monitor is connected or not.

I have installed all the latest drivers from lenovos website.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I have a new ThinkPad Yoga and when it is running on battery power if the screen goes to sleep after five minutes it will not wake up.  I can press the power button and see the LED above the I flash slowly flash like it is in sleep mode but if I try to wake it up the screen will not come back on.  I am forced to press and hold the power button to force shut it down and them power it back on.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  I am currently going to download the Intel version of the HD video driver and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

Hi Henrikh,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that your ThinkPad Yoga goes to sleep and doesn’t resume normally.

To disable the system from going automatically to sleep mode, go to control panel -> Power options -> on the left hand side, Change when the computer sleeps -> Change “Put the computer to sleep” to never.

To enable a device to wake up the system from sleep, Go to control panel -> Device manager -> Go to "Mice and other pointing devices" and double click on the mouse which you are using and check "Allow this device to wake the computer". Press OK.

Do the same for keyboard as well.

Do let me know if it helped!

Best regards,

Mithun.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I had this exact problem on a 20CD0033US, the good news is that I seem to have fixed it.  I flashed the BIOS (to the 11-28 version) and updated the video driver using the tools on the Lenovo support page.  The problem hasn't reoccured since I made those changes, one of these fixes solved it (likely the BIOS flash).  Good luck, I hope it works for you too.  Really annoying bug.

BTW, the "solution" offered in this thread is no solution at all.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

My new ThinkPad has the same problem.
If I'm at business meeting and need to reference something on the ThinkPad in the middle of my presentation, I don't have time to struggle with a reboot. My. iPad turns on instantaneously. Why can't the ThinkPad. I'm returning it if a solution isn't found ASAP.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

Hi Jnewark,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I hope you would have already tried the steps mentioned in my previous post. On top of that, try updating Video and network drivers, BIOS and run a windows and Lenovo System update.

Please let me know the happenings.

Best regards,

Mithun.

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I tried running the new bios and got a new "incompatible" error. I'm running windows 8.1
Im not a computer geek just a professional trying to get work done. This is frustrating to have these problems with a new laptop. The hours I've wasted.....

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

Hi agian

Sorry my late response. I have during the last weeks tried to find the source of my problem.

I have experienced this problem after the latest BIOS update 1.08 that Hiro11 refers to, so for me that's not the solution.

Since the red light is lighting when the problem occurs I believe it's not related to sleep mode, but to "turn off display".

My most accurate guess right now is that this problem is related to my "Sandberg USB 3.0 4 Port Hub". I have only experienced this problem when the USB hub is connected.

Is that possible?

Re: Thinkpad Yoga, not waking up after sleep

I have the exactly same issue.  About ready to return it.  i'm going to try turning off "turn display off" but leaving "go to sleep" and see if that works.  I'll report back.

Lenovo.  This is my first Lenovo product that I purchased because I liked the high res screen.  Please don't let me down.
