Thinkpad yoga 14 Flickering Screen and Active Pen

2015-12-29, 16:59 PM

Hello,

Ive bought a thinkpadYoga 14 (20DM00AQGE) with active pen of course, well, it had win 10 pre installed, but i had issues with it

when i started any programs, lets say windows journal and put it fullscreen, the screen started flickering like hell

it still could respond when i was touching it but just flackering.

so ive heard its an issue with graphics card driver 940M and win 10, and installed win 8.1

hmm, the issue is not on the journal anymore but some programs still behave like that, for example "driver fusion"

i tryed different things, here are the results:

1920 x 1080 fullscreen = flickering

any lower solution scaled to fullscreen =flickering

any lower solution not scaled = no flickering !!

any resolution fullscreen + TV (fullHD) per HDMI cable = notebook screen flickering and TV screen not flickering, i can write with my finger on the notebook screen even if i dont see anything because of so much flickering and i see a perfect picture on the tv with the touchscreeen responding just the way it should

i even tryed to disable intel graphics or/and nvidia graphics in the device manager without success

so this only happens if i rlly put those programs on fullscreen mode, if i do window mode and just drag it to the size of the screen = no problems

i hope someone can help me with that issue

and PS:

the active pen, do i need to connect it or something? i can't write with it, i did put the battery in and it doesnt work, it has only 2 buttons, i did push them, hold them... nothing happens

does any1 know how it works?

Re: Thinkpad yoga 14 Flickering Screen and Active Pen

Hi

I have a TP Yoga 14, it is similar but it is different model (20DM008UUS).

I also have the Intel HD 5500 and NVidia 940M, also on 1920 x 1080 with Windows 10 and I have flickering on the screen.

Do you want to give it a try updating the drivers of the Intel HD 5500 and NVidia 940M?

Maybe you already know that you can download the driver of your model here, but I will like to also share my tips for updating the drivers.

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches

2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.

3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"

4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

Hi

About the Pen. Which pen do you use? I have a Thinkpad Pen Pro (4X80H34887) and works fine for my model.

Checking your model it says it supports an Active Pen:

http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_Yoga_14?M=20DM00AQ%2B%2B

So, maybe you can give it a try updating the Wacom Driver of you machine. You don't have to do much to configure the pen, it should work if the driver and Wacom tool are installed. (and if the pen battery works fine).

Check out the drivers on Lenovo support site, if it does not work we can try to find some other Wacom drivers outside Lenovo.

Regards.

Hello,

thank you very much for your answers,

yes, i tryed everything youve mentioned, updating drivers from win update, tryed the solution center from lenovo, tryed installing drivers manually from nvidia and intel, nothing helps...

at the end i found out, that in tablet modus if i put it on the top, so the screen is turned around, then atleast the windows journal worked in fullscreen mode, i put it back on feet and again flickering :D

well, about the pen, i dont know, it may be broken, battery worked fine for sure, ive tested it

well end of story is, i have 14 days the possibility to send it back and get back the money without any reason, i bought it 8 days ago, so i just used it and sent it back...

as soon as i get back the money ill buy the new thinkpad yoga 460 (20ELS00100)

if you want i can tell you if it has the same flickering problem or not, because it has the same graphics cards...

I think this is a problem with the OS. I have a TP X200 tablet computer, the same flickering problem happened when I maximize the browser windows. It becomes worse if I connect to an external screen. Hopefully there is a solution to easily fix it...

It cant be only because of windows 10

as i said, i even had it on windows 8.1

windows journal and windows explorer worked fine though, but calibrating the touch screen, where a white window pops up made it flickering on win8.1

well some guy told me it might be because the 2 graphics cards cant decide which one is responsible for the screen right then, dont ask me more.

and what i think is, that disabling the intel graphics card though bios would fix it, but unfortunately, you cant :/

I have asked tech support from Microsoft, except for troubleshooting, they did not solve the problem at all. Then they ask me to pay to solve the problem in some high price. So, I gave up here. Hope someone can figure out the cheap solution.

Re: Thinkpad yoga 14 Flickering Screen and Active Pen

hi,

the pen ive got for 460 is the active pen pro, it is delivered with the notebook and you can hide it in the case,

so no idea where to find that number and stuff

just look here

http://gizmodo.com/a-supercapacitor-stylus-is-the-best-thing-about-lenovos-1728110187

but i have to mention: yesterday i had problems with the screen, it did not always recognize the pen, so it wrote in pieces, atleast on the left side of the screen. i went to the store where i bought that notebook and showed it to the sellers and they told me, yea this might be broken screen but we cant give you another notebook because we have no another one, you got the last we had and we will not get more before the end of february

and your warranty will be activated in 2 weeks, so its rather you wait 2 weeks and call to lenovo and they will come and change the creen or we take the notebook back and give you your money

i kept it and said ill wait 2 weeks and will have not to write, but suddenly...

today i have no problems, its like someone already changed the screen, it works perfect for now.. and i dont know what i should do..

if i call lenovo and cant show them the problem, they will say yeeaaa go awaay...

but if it lets me down when i rlly need it, then im kinda screwed...
