Twist S230U - Final Result Code : W1R9BVEZS-AANTV4 after hardware scan

I just had the following hardware scan that resulting in a failed test on one of my storage drives.

 

This comes after a major windows 10 update a few days ago. 

 

See the attached report for more info on the failure (SMART Status Test) and the warning (SMART Short Self Test). 

 

Can this be repaired or do I need a new drive?

Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are getting an error code while running hardware scan.

Eventually Hard drive is going to fail, backup all your important stuffs & contact Lenovo for new hard drive if system under warranty.

What are the odds this is a problem resulting from the Windows 10 critical update I received and not the hard drive?

 

Are there further diagnostic tools I can run to give me more insight??

It's hard to say that it is from Windows 10 update as the hardware scan was performed from Operating System. You can use Lenovo Bootable diagnostics which will give you more accurate results.

But IMO the Hard drive is going to fail anyways in future.

Okay, so I will replace my hard drive. I have some questions related to that. Hope you don't mind me asking you here.

 

1) How do I ensure the new hard drive is compatable to my specs? (motherboard??)

 

2) Other than the physical dimensions of the internal drive which need to be matched, are there certain specs I should ensure match so there I am not putting stress (power or heat) on the system?

 

   a)  The laptop presently contains a Western Digital HGST branded drive. 500GB, 32MB cache, 7200rpm. 

 

3) Is there a link (at Lenovo's web site) I can visit to ensure I buy a suitable replacement drive as per the above questions?

 

4) Once I have the new hard drive installed, and reinstalled Windows 10, how do I install the various Lenovo programs that are in my laptop presently?

Serial: [redacted]
BIOS: GDETB3WW (1.73 )

 

It has an Intel Core i5-3337U Processor @ 1.8GHz.

 

The storage device which is failing and wil be replaced is as follows:

HGST HTS725050A7E630 with firmware GH2ZB550

500GB, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache

 

I am looking at the following drive from Western Digital:

But will consider all options once I find out how to ensure compatability.

>Also you can go for SSD instead of traditional Hard disk drive specification will be Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high

I called Microsoft to ensure I did not have to buy Windows 10 again since it was a free upgrade from Windows 8 which was installed at purchase.

 

They helped to create a bootable image file on a DVD. I have also used the "create recovery usb" from within the Lenovo settings. I am not sure if I need this recovery usb since I have the DVD MS helped me create. 

 

With respect to Lenovo programs; the Lenovo Solution Center, etc... is there any way for me to reinstall Lenovo programs on my Thinkpad after Windows 10 is installed??

Above you say SATA 3.0Gb, can it be higher? Most are now 6.0Gb so is higher okay or does it have to be 3.0??
