Webcam not detected after downgrading to win7 (Thinkpad Yoga 14)

2016-01-04, 13:27 PM

Hi,

I'm facing this issue for a while now:

Because of some issues I had with win8 and because the upgrade to win10 made it even worse, I decided to go back to win7.

I formated the laptop and installed win7 from an USB key. After a couple hours updates/drivers installation, everything was working perfectly. After a couple weeks I tried to skype but the integrated camera was not working. (it worked before downgrading)

It doesn't appear in device manager (not even as hidden device). I checked in BIOS and it shows [enabled].

I tried many things and I'm running out of ideas.

HELP!

Hi. Welcome to the Forums

Can you please specify the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?

I also don't have many ideas about it if it does not shows on Window Device Manager.

On My TP Y 14 (20DM008UUS) I have this device from SunPlusIT - USB\VID_1BCF&PID_2C79

But it may be different according to you specific model.

I run HWInfo64 tool that looks similar to Windows Device Manager, but it gives you more information.

I just find my webcam there, just as an example.

HWInfo.png

Maybe I can suggest.

1) Download HWInfo 64

2) Try to find the Hardware ID of you webcam.

3) If you find it there, let's try to find the driver of that webcam for Windows 7

or, If HWInfo64 does not find your camera there, it may be disconnected or a Hardware Issue.

Sorry that I work with "Trial and Error", but it may give you some hints.

Good luck

Regards

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your help,

The model number of my TP is 20DM008GMZ

I downloaded HWInfo64

The only  USB composite device I see is:

Product name : Pen and multi touch sensor

Hardware ID : USB\VID_056A&PID_502B

I guess that has nothing to do with a camera.

I also tried to dl drivers for my usb port but I can't find anything that's not up to date.

Do you have some other ideas? If it's a hardware issue, what would you advice?

Hi

We have a very similar machine, I have a 20DM008UUS.

Lenovo have this drivers for the webcam:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga-14/20dm/008gmz/downloads/DS101214

Give it a try first.... just in case...

But if it does not shows up on the HWInfo or recognized on Windows Device Manager, I'm thinking it is more like a hardware problem.

What I would do in your case, if the driver does not work, is:

- Check it the computer is on warranty.... put your serial number on this page.

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup?tabName=Warranty

- Call and open a ticket with the local Lenovo Service Center. If it is on warranty maybe it will cover it, if it is not on warranty I think they will make you a proposal on the cost on fixing it.

But this is only my personal opinion based on what I think.

Regards

Thanks for the reply.

I tried this driver already (a couple times) and still no progress. I'm thinking to roll back to win8 to check if I caused the issue rolling back on win7. (I look strange to me that an hardware issue occurs just after formating).

If that doesn't help then, I'll open a ticket as you suggest.

Thanks for your help anyway and have a nice day ;)

Regards

Virgile
