Yoga 14: M2 is Bootable with Win 8.1 but CANNOT Upgrade to Win 10

Hello,

I've successfully replaced the 8 gb M2 with a 256 gb unit which has Win 8.1 on it. The laptop works beautifully but (in an effort to have Microsoft stop reminding me to upgrade) I can't seem to upgrade to Win 10. I keep getting error msg: You can't install windows 10 on a USB flash drive using Setup".

Does anyone know a way around this? Is there a way to upgrade or (I prefer) do a clean install with the OS on the M2 disc?

Thank you,

John

Try this Windows Registy tweak and see if the change allows you to install without an error.

  • Right-click on Start > Run
  • In the Run window type: regedit  and presss enter
  • Navigage to the following key   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
  • With Control highlighted in the left pane; in the right pane search for a value called "PortableOperatingSystem", and if it exists, double click on it and change its value to 0
  • Reboot and retry your upgrdade.

Good Luck
