Re: Yoga 15 Laptop (ThinkPad) - windows 8.1 expired?

Hi

I can not say that I'm a Windows expert but for what I know the Windows license key on UEFI BIOS machines (modern ones like the Yoga15) is included on the BIOS and Windows reads it automatically when it installs.

Can you check on "System" if it tells if Windows is activated or not?

I also found this tip on the MS forums, but you require admin access to run the cmd.exe and try a command.

Regards

Hi.

I'm guessing that your Yoga 15 may came with a Windows Home license installed on the UEFI BIOS, and on the picture I see that Windows 8.1 Pro was installed.  But is it just a guess.

You can run the command propmt (cmd.exe) in administrative mode and run:

 wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

It will show you the Product Key that you have in your UEFI BIOS, but I still do not know how to recognize if the Product Key is for Windows home or Pro.

Re: Yoga 15 Laptop (ThinkPad) - windows 8.1 expired?

we performed the " wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey" command, and in fact it displayed a different product key than shown in the system dialog...this is strange

we also performed the the following procedure as recommended in the MS forum (link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/your-windows-licence-will-expire... ):

a: Press Windows key + X.

b: Then click Command Prompt(admin)

c: Now type the following command and then hit enter

slmgr -rearm

d: Now restart the computer.

the expiry note is now gone, but still Windows is not activated and cannot be activated through the system panel options
