Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

Hi All

I'm confused about my options, I'm looking for around a 500Gb SSD. Can my 370 take both SATA and NVMe M.2 drives ? If both is it worth spending extra on a NVMe one ?

Thanks.

And which physical size of M.2 drives can the 370 take ? Now I read about some drives needing something called a caddy, now I'm really confused !

Re: Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

Your laptop only uses an M.2 SSD, not the 2.5" laptop hard drive size. Some models of your laptop has a PCIe slot whereas others have a SATA slot. Do you know if your computer has a PCIe NVMe SSD from the factory, or does it have the SATA?

Here are upgrade options, depending on what slot you have

M.2 SATA: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/thinkpad-yoga-370-%28non-wwan-model%29/CT13039477

M.2 PCIe NVMe: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/thinkpad-yoga-370-%28non-wwan-model%29/CT11446208

Hi,

The way I read the spec - that slot will support either SATA or NVMe.  Per Goretsky's detailed Q & A linked below - a single-sided SSD may be required.

Thank very much guys for the feedback.

It came with a SATA drive. The crutial site suggests both will work.

Z you reference a spec, where did you get this from, the user manual doesn't mention it.

Re: Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

Thanks, I'd just found it too :-)

Now do we read that as some have a motherboard that can take SATA and others can take NVMe ? If I take the current drive out would I be able to tell from the the slot key(s) ?

Sorry for all the questions...

Thanks again

Re: Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

Hello,

You can usually check in Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC) to see what kind of SSD is currently installed. That might be faster and easier than opening up the computer.

Re: Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

It currently has a sata drive fiited.

So I bit the bullet and opened it up. The slot ony has one key. So does that mean it'll take SATA and NVMe ?

Re: Yoga 370 (20JJS1TC00), which sdd SATA or NVMe ?

Hello,

That is an M-keyed port, which should work with both SATA and NVMe.  A SATA-only port would have both M and B keys, preventing an M-only drive (NVMe) from being installed.
