Yoga S1 (20CD): BIOS Update 1.26 asks for supervisor password - none set

2015-10-06, 22:43 PM

I'm using a Yoga S1 (20CD). I can use all BIOS updates up to 1.25 from this page:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-yoga/20cd/a02u00/downloads/DS038334

However, if I try to flash 1.26 it asks for a "Supervisor Password" although none is set. I double-checked in the BIOS and the Supervisor Password is set to "Disabled". If I just press return when the utility asks for the password, it fails with "An unexpected error has occured. The utility process has not completed.".

I'm on 1.26 and I didn't see this problem on my own system.

Can you please tell me, what version is installed currently?

There are a couple tricks we can try to get past this.

I'm not sure which version I was running when first tried it. I'm now running 1.25 and the problem still shows, I can't flash to 1.26.

I understand that you currently have BIOS 1.25 installed and can't update to 1.26 due to unexpected prompt for supervisor password.  This might be caused by corruption in EFI system variables.  Please try this:

0.  Make sure AC power is attached

1.  Download and extract the 1.25 BIOS package (but don't install it yet)

2.  Open command prompt as admin

3.  CD to the extracted folder (e.g. C:\Drivers\Flash\gquj18ww)

4.  "Winflash64.exe /patch /cvar"

5.  The system should automatically reboot and flash default settings

6.  You'll see some error like "0183:  Bad CRC of Security Settings in EFI variable"   (this is expected)

7.  Press F1 to enter Setup as prompted

8.  Change to the "Restart" page

9.  Set OS Optimized Defaults - "Disabled" if you are running Win7; "Enabled" if you are running Win8/8.1/10

10.  Press F9 to load default settings

11.  Press F10 to Save and Exit

12.  Boot to Windows, and try to flash to 1.26 again
