need to figure out how to perminently disable the touch screen

2020-01-20, 20:24 PM

Hi there, I have a Lenovo Model: Flex 3-1580 Laptop, Machine Type: 80R40006US

I have two issues that I’m sure can be resolved but I haven’t found one yet.

  1. Disable touch screen permanently
  2. Disable track pad permanently.

I have disabled the touch screen device in device manager but when I restart my laptop, it always enables it. For the track pad, I would like to disable it all the time.

I don’t see anywhere, where I can permanently disable these two items.

(This message may be in the wrong forum but figured it would be much the same with other units)

Hi !

Normally, once a driver has been disabled in Device Manager, it should stay disabled even if you've restarted the computer. Unless, there's an application that resets/re-enables it.

As an alternative, you may follow the steps below to create a custom registry setting that will disable the touchscreen permanently.

  • Open regedit
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch
  • Create a new DWORD (32 bit) with the name TouchGate
  • Doubleclik on the newly ceated DWORD and make sure it has the value (0 = touch disabled, 1 = touch enabled)

After rebooting the touch functionality should be disabled permanently and therefore your problem solved.

For the touchpad i believe that there's an option to disable it using F6 key in your keyboard.

Regards,
