60% Battery after 1,5 year?

2010-06-08, 7:06 AM

I wanted to know if this is normal

Lenovo PC Doctor says that my 9-cell battery is in good condition and it has 63% of the original charge. I bought my laptop on late October 2008.

I still have more than one year warranty. I want to know if I can get something from the service.

I did a normal use of laptop (sometimes plugged in, sometimes on battery, I play games 1 a month...etc I use power manager with switchable graphics and my SO is W7 64 bit

My Thinkpad (and it's 6 cell battery) are 15 month old and I have 94% of the battery's original capacity left.

You could use the recalibration function of the Power Manager and check if your battery is really in such a bad condition.

Thanks for your reply...

In the Power manager under "Battery" tab, pressing on "Battery Manteinance" button, there is a button "Battery Gauge Reset" you mean this?

It says that I will be notified when a reset is recommended.

The reset of the battery gauge only doesn't change anything with your battery, but it checks how much capacity is really left. Without the recalibration you only get an estimation.

Did you purchase additional battery coverage?  Because unless you did, the battery warranty is only one year regardless of the length of the system warranty.

You can check your warranty status here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-WARNTY

The extended battery warranty is fairly new.

Lithium-Ion batteries typically last 2-3 years, but can last as little as 12-18 months if used on main power. Heat also accelerates aging.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
