BUG: ThinkPad Video Features (NVIDIA N16S-GTR) update on T460p

2018-02-22, 0:29 AM

ThinkPad T460p WQHD with NVIDIA 940MX running Windows 8.1 x64 Pro

Driver update: Version: 22.21.13.8554/21.20.16.4821

Lid close set to "Do nothing"

After installing this driver update (Intel 21.20.16.4821), closing the lid results in open windows being shrunk to much smaller size, suggesting resolution switch from WQHD (2560x1440) to something much lower.

Reverting to prior driver (Intel 21.20.16.4550) solves the problem, but leaves the security issue unfixed.

I see same issue with Intel driver version 4821 on t460p ( iGPU only).
I solved it by installing a newer Intel driver version. But this might be not an option for an NVidia Optimus configuration.

Good suggestion, thanks.

(I'd have gotten around to it eventually, helps to be prodded.)

Uninstalled Intel video (and Vulkan) drivers provided by Lenovo,

and then installed 4360 direct from Intel, solving the problem.

No issue with Optimus, which uses only standard Windows API.

I'm using drivers directly from Intel more and more instead of Lenovo.

Before this it was Intel PROSet Wireless Software and Drivers 20.10.2

yeah, I did that too, because Lenovo still have not released updated WiFi drivers for the WPA2 KRACK  attack.

Did the same with bluetooth drivers.

I get the impression that the T4x0s models get the best support (tier-1)  and the t4x0p models are tier-2 or even tier-3

I do not undertand the reasoning behind Lenovo's driver fragmentation.  Why do Lenovo release several different driver packages for the same hardware even when vendor releases one unified package?

Likewise, except I reverted to Intel Bluetooth 19.30.1649 (actually 19.30.1648.922), because I found 19.71 to be unstable with the ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse.

Amen.

T470p is just a warmed over T460p, and there apparently won't be a T480p.

Sic transit gloria mundi.
