Battery issues about my t470

2017-09-30, 16:22 PM

i got my T470 few weeks ago

every thing works just fine

but i found a problem

The internal battery discharge before the external battery

so what's the point with hot swap?

i won't be able to swap the battery without take the risk of shutting down, because of external battery don't work unless the internal battery down to 5%

is there any solution to fix the problem?

1:like making the external battery discharge first

or

2:discharging alternately between both internal and external battery every 5%

I did some research online

Knowing that is not as easy as typing some code in the shell or some settings I can find in the system

Battery runs even before the operating system

It probably need a BIOS update to fix that

Really wise that my message could go to the engineer

So they can start trying to solve this

Same issue here. Looks like it started with one of the recent BIOS updates.

Dear T470 users,

In case your Windows 10 version is 1703 (aka RedStone2) and you see the battery remaining capacity from Windows battery gauge at Taskbar, Battery 1 and Battery 2 are shown swapped.

I'd like you to confirm the battery information and status by the Lenovo Settings instead of Windows battery gauge.  Lenovo Settings can handle battery 1 and battery 2 information properly on any Windows version.

u sure about that?

actually i don't really care about if the battery numbers are shown right or wrong

is about the battery discharging order

if i can't freely replace my external battery without risking shutdown

("freely" means to me is the internal battery should not be discharging before the external battery drain out, so that i can replace external battery with a fully charged one, without shutting down my laptop or risking to shutdown accidentally)

if the internal battery discharge before the external battery

what's the point of the idea of hot swap, that the idea Lenovo has been telling about

so i really need to spell it?

I think it has been already established in other threads that batteries get discharged based on their wear levels and not external first. I can confirm this behaviour on my T470 with latest BIOS v1.42. It alternates dicharging batteries between internal and external first. This is very annoying since this indeed diminishes the usefulness of having a hot swappable battery.

Count me in as well. Typing this post with 39% on internal battery and 99% on removable (which already has 1% wear - on a laptop just I bought two days ago).

This makes PowerBridge just useless. I can understand this behaviour on T470s for example, but I chose T470 because of Powerbridge feature - which I cannot really use.

Same problem here!

Why isn't there any BIOS update like it was on the T460 with exactly the same issue?

Sounds to me like planned obsolescence and this would be very sneaky by Lenovo.

Dear "support",

sorry for being that annoyed, but i searched for a simple straight forward mail form or even some of these old fashioned email adresses to use in my favourite mail app... seems like you hide that stuff pretty well to guide users to your "repair ticket service" where they need to create another account. nevermind...

I experience the issues mentioned above. Im not using windows 10, im using linux mint 18.1 with an linux 4.11.0-14 kernel.

Additionally, as soon as one battery (obviously the internal) are on 5%, the cpu is throttled to 400mhz.

This also sometimes happens of both batteries ar above 90%, its just super annoying because the computer is not usable with 400mhz...

If there is no easy solution, please contact me to find a solution.
