dock type 40an with a p1 thinkpad does the same thing and it isn't a hybrid dock

40AN is Thunderbolt dock.  It works fine for what you want to do.  But you have to change the Boot Display Device in BIOS Setup.

Unfortunately it's a limitation of DisplayLink, which needs a driver to load in the OS before display output will work.

Docks that don't use DisplayLink will work, such as the 40A9 USB-C dock, the Thunderbolt docks, and the mechanical side-load docks like 40AH.

Re:Bitlocker PIN + USB-C Thunderbolt dock

@someotherguy I have Thinkpad P72 connected to Docking station 40AN (thunderbold 3 workstation dock, not GEN2). I am facing a problem with external screens connected over DisplayPort, which are black until windows is not started. I need to have screen on external display before Windows stage, cause of Encryption Tool where user need to give his data.

Unfortunately in UEFI I cannot to choose boot display device, I have just default option.

I just found, that some display issues was fixed in one FW release, but I would like to know if that this one.  What 'DRS' does it means?

Release Date: 2018/12/17

VersionName=1.52

Firmware version: Tbt=37 [updated]

Pd1=1.38.06 Pd2=1.38.06

UsbHub1=5113

UsbHub2=5113 Mcu=0.23 [updated]

DpHub=5.03.005

Fixed issues:

1. Remove CheckHubSpeed to speed up update MCU.

2. Fix downstream TBT port behavior in Sx entry when the link is not configured to prevent possible auto-wake

3. Fix direct connection state transitions from MFDP to DP and vice versa (in/out)

5. Clear the host connected indication on disconnect to keep PD state coherent.

6. Fix some host cannot charge issue. (enable PRS on initial stage)

7. Fix some host cannot have DP/HDMI display issue. (enable DRS on initial stage)

8. Improve DP version recognition issue.

9. Fix Dock could not be recognized after TBT disconnect suddenly when firmware updated.

10. Fix incorrect power adapter identification issue.

This issue has nothing to do with dock firmware.  why can't you change Boot Display Device in BIOS setup?  You may need to change the Graphics Device setting to Discrete, first.
