Blue screen with Hyper-v on T410

2010-05-27, 13:41 PM

Since Microsoft did not put Hyper-V on Win7, my company was forced to install Server 2008 R2 on quite a few machines. My sales people need to do demos and in some cases project them so I installed the Intel 8.15.10.2104 driver (meant for Windows 7 but that is all I have). Ironically, they are Microsoft demos.

The driver works fine until we launch Hyper-V then blue screen. This happens on all the machines we use, T400's and T410's with Intel or nVidia.

Has anyone run into this issue? Was there a fix? I am not much of a hardware crash dump reader but I am trying.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jack

I hate saying this, but...

I am running a T410 with i5-540M and have no issues running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and Hyper-V R2. I have the NVidia video card. If I can help in any way I'd be glad too.

You may want to try different versions of the intel driver.  These drivers can be a bit flakey depending upon system configuration.

Thinkpad T500-2081 CTO | T9400 2.53GHz | 8 GB RAM | ATI HD3650 + Intel GM45 | 15.4" LED WXGA+ | Windows 10 | ATI Catalyst 13.1 (non-switchable)
Thinkpad 390x | PII 333 | 256mb ram | NeoMagic 256AV | SVGA LCD | OS/2 v4.52

I have the exact same configuration: T410 with NVidia NVS3100M but whenever I add the HyperV role on win 2008 I get a blue screen after restart.

Switching to the Generic VGA driver works but then I do not have high resolution and unable to use an external screen.

Can you please share which driver did you use for the video card?

Thanks in advance.

Are you running Hyper-V or Hyper-V R2? I am using Hyper-V R2.

Sorry, I meant hyper-v R2. Whenever I apply the win7 nvidia driver (as I couldn't find a win 2008 R2 driver) I get the blue screen after restart.

DFury, can you please specify which nVidia driver did you use on your laptop that make it work? A link would be great.

I'm just about to give up here.....

Thanx in advance.

Install Win dows 2008 R2 SP1 (beta) to solve it.  You can find it on the Microsoft web site.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/sp1.aspx

Additionally, you might have to disable the Intel Turbo Boost in Windows Server 2008 R2 – open Device Manager, locate Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology Driver, disable it.

We have the same requirement

I have server 2008 R2 on a W510  and it blue screens occationally but the T410 won't even configure Hyper-V

it crashes to BOD on rebbot.

Has anyone resolved this issue?

Is it in fact the video driver or is it the Turbo Boost as suggested by Hbellen?
