Bricked t480?

2020-10-17, 20:51 PM

So I recently reinstalled lenovo vantage on my t480 so that I can bypass my battery since I was working from home all the time, and saw some updates. One of them was a BIOS update alongside a few others (the only other one I remember is a thunderbolt related update - I've been getting thunderbolt errors on startup recently so that one stuck out). I started the updates through the lenovo vantage interface, waited for the updates to start, left it plugged in and charged and went away from maybe 40 mins to an hour. I came back to find a totally black screen with the fans turned on to maximum. I left it again for another 40 mins to an hour, came back to find the same thing.

Is my laptop bricked? If so, what are my options to repair?

Have you tried the emergency reset hole on the bottom? Worth a shot.

Thanks for the tip! I disconnected AC, took out the removable battery, then reset using the emergency reset hole. It "turned off" the computer, but when I turn it on again via the power button same thing occurs - light on, black screen, fans pushing lots of hot air out the exhaust.
