Broken capacitor during cooler reinstallation

2020-10-16, 14:20 PM

I have ThinkPad t420. So during thermal paste change, I was screwing back the screw that holds the cooling fan, but I accidentally screwed in the long screw and it broke C151 capacitor. Laptop doesn't boot, only power light flashes. Is it possible to fix it somehow or do I need to send it to someone?

I think it is unlikely to be worth fixing.  You almost certainly also broke or shorted traces under the surface.  Circuit diagrams are not available so you cannot determine what size capacitor you need, and replacement (used) boards can be found on places like eBay

Can I send it to Lenovo service center or will they not do this kind of repair?. On the diagram that I found it gives me this info about this capacitor:

C151
