Can't select many options in BIOS, including 'restore default settings'

2020-03-30, 14:34 PM

Hello forum members,

I forgot my BIOS password so this morning I removed the CMOS battery cable, and plugged it back in after 30 minutes. The password was removed, but, now I can not select every option in the BIOS anymore. My keyboard works, as I use it to access BIOS and to scroll through the tabs. However, when I try to scroll up and down through a menu using the up and down arrows,  only a few options are available. The rest are just skipped and are not changeable. Also the 'restore to default' option is skipped over, and F9 doesnt work either. External keyboard gives the exact same results. I tried reinstalling my BIOS, but since I have the latest version it just says that updating is not needed. I am kind of desperate at this point so I genuinely hope someone has a solution for me.

Thanks in advance,

Sander

There is no solution except to remember the password.  What you are describing is what happens when BIOS prompts you to enter the supervisor password, but you just press enter.  This lets you enter BIOS setup, but it is in user-mode and most settings can't be changed.

You removed the power-on password, not the BIOS password.  The CMOS battery has no effect on the BIOS password.
