Cant install Win10 T470p and x270

2017-06-01, 9:59 AM

Hello,

we have a x270 and a T470p, both new.

When I try to install Windows10 ENTERPRISE (1703, 1607) in UEFI mode, an Error occours in the last step "Finishing up"

"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed." (translatet from German)

The ISO is a "gold" default from Microsoft.

In legacy mode the intallation works fine. I´ve also tried some different Bios settings like disabing the TPM2.0 Chip, Secure Boot and Device Guard.

At last i tried another SSD, but still same problem.

The Recovery Stick from lenovo also works. And this is a UEFI installation.

Thanks for Help

Sascha

Hello and welcome

I can't explain the reason of error, sorry for that. It seems the installation log is needed to inspect but it might be difficult enough task.

Why didn't you install Creators Update via Windows System Update, using Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant? I've perfomed that task on T470p from factory version 1607 to 1703 without any issue:
- SU has installed update 3150513 (probably, update 4013214 is needed too but not in my case)
- I didn't wait the offer from SU to perform the auto-updgrade to 1703 and open new link appeared in Windowss Settings -> Update to load and launch Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant
- then the OS updgrade has been done successfully.

Lenovo image preloaded on T470p is almost clear from OS preinstalled junk (it's a Signature Edition) and Lenovo apps except of needed settings metro application. So, there isn't so many reasons to install Creators update from the scratch.

Hello there,

thank you for reply, but fistly our Company Gidelines dont allow to use the lenovo Image.

We have planned to buy up to 20 more devices of the seventies Serie, but when we cant install the Gold Release from Microsoft, we are not shure if we can response for this.

Greetings,
Sascha

We downloaded our ISO files from different locations.
We use ISO Files from MSDN, VLSC Portal and Microsoft Partner Network.
Right now we use the following file:
de_windows_10_enterprise_version_1703_updated_march_2017_x64_dvd_10204222.iso

I tried also some different versions like 1607 and 1503. If i try a installation of win Pro i get the same Error.

Can you tell me where you get your ISO?

We have this problem on all our NEW *70 devices (T470p, X270...)

All older devices (T460p, T440...) install W10_1703 normally

Re: Cant install Win10 T470p and x270

Just now I installed Win10 1703 Enterprise using the following ISO from MSDN:

en_windows_10_enterprise_version_1703_updated_march_2017_x64_dvd_10189290.iso

My test systems:

1.  X270 with BIOS version 1.13

2.  T470s with BIOS version 1.10

Here is how I configure BIOS:

A.  set OS Optimized defaults as Enabled (on the "Restart" screen)

B.  Press F9 to load default settings

C.  Press F10 to save and exit

Then, press F12 and boot to the USB key which contains extracted ISO (via UltraISO) and install Win10.  No problem found.

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

It´so easy...Thank you!

We never used the default settings in our old notebooks.

The options that we normally change are:

-Virtualisation   >ON

-SecureBoot     >ON

         ˪UEFI-BOOT Only

Never had problems with older devices.

I tried different settings. Also enabled and disabled "OS optimized defaults"

You dont need to, but can you try this settings and tell me if you got the same error?

Greetings

Sascha

EDIT: Can you try the installation with activated Boot order Lock? After disabling i got my x270 work.

Boot order lock will definitely cause the problem you reported.  Because Windows will not be able to insert itself into the UEFI Boot Order if you set the lock.  It is a not a default setting, so how did it get enabled on your systems?
