Computrace: Enabled but Not Activated

Hi to all!

Unfortunately my Thinkpad T480s died during the flood 2 days ago and yesterday I bought new one because I can't be without laptop. I bought almost the same T480s. I've visited few locations and look for few used laptops and choose the one. But the point is - it has Enabled Computrace. I read before that better to buy Thinkpad without Computrace activated. But I don't know exactly what it is and how bad it in my case.

So on my laptop Computrace is Enabled. But current status is Not Activated.

Should I worry about it or not? Should I bring this laptop back to the shop? I have pay slip, warranty 6 monthes and 2 weeks for testing. So I just want to understand the situation. Because I'm very happy with this one T480s and it's condition is perfect, almost new and unlike my previous this one has touchscreen. So I don't want to get rid of it. If there nothing to worry about. Maybe I should contact with Lenovo to disable Computrace?

Please help me to find out is this status ok or not. Thank you!

Re:Computrace: Enabled but Not Activated

As long as it was left in default status then it will stay the same.
The Computrace is a subscription service, if you will activate it then you'll be asked to pay for the service.
But if you permanently disable it then it will be gone forever on the system.
Thanks for posting.

Computrace: Enabled but Not Activated

Re:Computrace: Enabled but Not Activated

Hello ThinkAlways,

Greetings

I understand that you are concerned with the Computrace on your ThinkPad T480s.
Just to let you know Computrace is an anti-theft service and a long term and trusted partner of Lenovo.
If you are not comfortable with it, try to either disable or permanently disable it.
You may do it thru the BIOS menu:
BIOS>Security>Anti-Theft>Computrace>Current Settings>choose whether to Disabled or permanently disabled.
See image below

Hope this helps.

Re:Computrace: Enabled but Not Activated

Hi Lorenzo! Thanks for answer.

Actually I know all this info what you let me know. My concern is not the fact I have computrace. My concern that this option is Enabled. Will I have some problems with it? Like remote block of laptop or something like this? Or I'm absolutely safe with "not activated" option?

I saw computrace in BIOS but when I entered that menu I can't change anuthing. I can only see these two options but its not available to change.
