They ati hotkey poller causes this, well probably a combo between it and the bios.

This is my third thinkpad, I was really going to try and let all the out of the boxes processes run this time and live with it, but low and behold they always do more harm then good.

I got my laptop brand new today, took me 3 hours to downgrade to XP then another 3 to install all the updates from Lenovo, which aren't even automatic now.  THEN Support wanted me to re-image the machine back to Vista to see if it fixed this problem, I hung up on them, before I said things I would have regretted.

SFSaillady, go to windows services and disable the ATI Hotkey poller services, I am sure you won't miss it.

Your icons were stay where you left them and your monitor will turn on much faster when you such the lid as well.

petemarkey - thanks for the tip on the "ATI HotKey Poller" service. I can now close my lid without worrying about my icons being re-arranged. Much appreciated.
